People who know relatively nothing about the candidates running, and probably couldn't name all of the candidates from each party if they had to. I think it is for three main reasons she is in the lead:
1. Name recognition.
2. Many women want to vote for her simply because she IS a woman.
3. Hers is the most frequently mentioned name in the media.
People who are out of the loop, uninterested in politics, and uneducated about all of the candidates would naturally gravitate towards Hillary because they don't know any better, and since she is the most talked about candidate, she MUST be the best one, right?
I find it sad, because Hillary is not a strong candidate at all, and in her priorities list, the well-being of the average American falls somewhere towards the bottom.
p.s. I'm not a conservative.

I think that people who are tired of the blame-everyone-but-us Bushies. People who are tired of tired lists of anyone in Arkansas who have died in the last 32 years. People who are tired of sex instead of sense being used to judge a president.
Shes got new ideas, thats a relief. Shes intelligent and expresses herself well, thats a relief.
She works hard and isn't trying to be someone you have a beer with, I can respect that. We have hard decisions and its going to be difficult to get the US to grow up and face what Bush has left us in the world and the economy. We know we need a serious person not a clown. Shes simply the right person for the job now. Most of us have been fooled enough by the slime tactics of the right, shes savvy enough to not let them get away with that for a day, let alone the weeks Kerry did. And we are smart enough to know when we have been had, as we were with Swiftboaters and Cleland.

Many will vote for her because simply because she has been the favourite target of the McCarthyite Republicans and their media lickspittles for the last sixteen years, and as such she has been identified as the person whose election will annoy them the most.
It isn't her policies that will elect her, but the policies of her opponents. After watching our political life slide into a cesspool of personal vilification and partisan vindictiveness, we want a return to the reasoned debate and compromise between parties that the founders of the nation envisioned.
Since the Republicans have (a) been principally responsible for the decay in public life, and (b) have consistently denounced Senator Clinton as the greatest threat to their vision for the future, and since the moderate American voter is disgusted with Republican behaviour and want to decisively reject the kind of religious zealotry that drove the Puritans to leave the Old World in the first place, it will be Hilary in 2008.
You guys did it to yourselves.
