Good Choices there. I'd be loathed to remove any, but I would add The Trees, Red Barchetta, and Making memories. Oh God! now loads are coming to mind, why not just do the entire back catalogue, it's all so strong. Don't be frightened of there older stuff, '73 - '80 was, in my opinion, there mightiest period, although they're still awesome. Neil Peart, what a drummer!!!

1 Finding My Way (Rush)
2 Fly By Night (Fly By Night)
3 2112 Overture (2112)
4 Closer To the Heart (Farewell To Kings)
5 The Trees (Hemispheres)
6 The Spirit Of Radio (Permanent Waves)
7 Tom Sawyer (Moving Pictures)
8 New World Man (Signals)
9 Red Sector A (Grace Under Pressure)
10 Marathon (Power Windows)
11 Time Stand Still (Hold Your Fire)
12 Superconductor (Presto)
13 YYZ (Moving Pictures)
14 Freewill (Permannt Waves)
A better overview of Rush's entire career I think.

Well it depends on what qualities you want to bring out in their songs (for instance when my sister started drumming I wanted her to know what an amazing drummer Neil Peart is. Or You may want them to realize what an underrated guitarist Alex Lifeson is.) The only two holes I'm seeing are: The 2112 Overture. (AMAZING rock opera kind of thing. It brings out the other story-song side of Rush. Songs like The Trees, Cygnus X-1 duology, and By-Tor the Snow Dog). Also, Tom Sawyer. That might be one they have heard before on a classic rock station or something. If you want to focus on some newer stuff, I'd go with something from the Vapor Trails CD. It was written after Neil got back from his "Ghost Ride", after his wife and daughter died, so the lyrics are even more poetic than usual. You listen to that cd for the lyrics, though, more than the music. Good job helping one more person become a little more eclectic!

Damn, late on this one!

Those are good choices for the unintiated, but I'd ditch 'La Villa", Natural Science, & Jacob's Ladder.

Why?

YYZ is enough of a good Rush instrumental w/o needing to make em sit through a 2nd & longer one. Rush isn't for everyone, so you've gotta make safe choices & keep their attention. I'd avoid any of the longer tunes for now.

Gotta have Tom Sawyer, Fly By Night & the Overture/Temples of Syrinx to replace the 3 I mentioned.

The fact that you included 'La Villa Strangiato' alone makes it a cool list.... I think one of their most overlooked great songs is 'In The End' from the album "Fly By Night". I also love 'Analog Kid' from "Signals". I think the albums "2112" through "Moving Pictures" are absolutely outstanding... anyone who DOESN'T like RUSH is someone I don't want to know.

I would drop Jacob's Ladder and add Driven. You have too many from Permanent Waves. (It was my first Rush album and one of my favorites, but it is only one of 30)

You also probably need to get Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, or Limelight from Moving Pictures

Subdivisions has to be included. I also agree with Red Barchetta and Roll The Bones. And if you don't include 2112, you are not making a RUSH cd.
