For the price break and the performance benefit, I'd pick the RAM. But for a side by side comparison, that would be a difficult call. To be able to tell without benchmarks which would be faster is a best guess indeed.
Good Luck

I would say more RAM would suite you better.
Several reasons.
It would be less expensive to add more RAM to your system. And software is getting more and more memory hogs, when you see programs start to lag, its rarely because of the processors, it's generally because the system is having to reallocate memory.
You won't see that much of a boost in performance from 2.4ghz to 3ghz. They're both insanely fast. But for the extra cost, it's not worth it unless you're doing some serious gaming, or hardcore number crunching...
I think with 2.4ghz you should be extremely happy.

General the RAM gives more a boost then the processor. No matter how fast the processor is, if it runs out of RAM and has to switch to Virtual Memory (the swap file on the hard drive), then the computer crawls. A slow processor with lots of RAM will beat a faster process with little RAM.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com
It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

I agree that the additional RAM will speed you up more. The problem is that when you are purchasing a computer is the best time to get a better processor. I would not sacrifice processor speed at purchase for a few bucks. You can always upgrade RAM later. It is very inexpensive these days.

Depends on your graphics card and OS, windows 32bit (normal windows) can only use the first 4GB of memory including the vRAM (if you have two 512 cards only 3GB of RAM can be used) so if you have alot of graphics memory go for the processor. I would get a new processor or get faster RAM modules (still 2GB)

processor determines how fast the computer can preform tasks. So I will always choose a better processor over memory because they are trying to make up for what they lack in processor speed by adding more member to be competitive.

You already have a fast computer. Normally i would recommend memory over processor but since you already have 2 gb (somewhat of an overkill) then i would suggest processor, but then again you already have 2.4 dual core processor. May i suggest you wait awhile???, Processor will get cheaper in a few months

provided your'e E6600 is performing everything asked of it,..... i'd probably just up the ram.
If its struggling,...... i'd up both the ram as well as the processor.
