I can't go to Mexico and get a job and buy a house.
I can't own a farm in Uganda.
I can't go to church in Saudi Arabia.

Ahem. I'm from America. Have an MA in history. I've lived in China for five years and two years respectively. And am under 30. Whatever. Yes, America is definitely the most racist developed country in the world. But what do you expect when your founding fathers harbored slaves and massacred the massacred the natives in a genocide 150-200 years ago that Hollywood has romanticized. You get illusion and ignorance. History is written by the winners. And America will be remembered as the most powerful, yet shortest empire the world has ever known (if their foreign policy doesn't kill us all within the next 50 years). It's also the most dangerous of all developed countries in the world. "I honestly believe" (in my best Miss S.Carolina accent) that China is a much safer country to live in (say what you will, but it's superfluous if you've never been here) that America has been a bigger threat to world peace since the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki than any other country in the history of history (also in my Miss S. Carolina vernacular). Don't just grab yourselves a map people, open a history book.
I will be a happy man when I die if China has taken over.
(from an under 30 something).
grow up and get some experience that doesn't require asking your wife to get you another beer during half time during the Broncos game while you take a **** -
when all the while, the **** has actually been coming out of your mouth.

America has racists as does just about every other country as some of the previous responders have noted.
Given that, how anyone could come to the conclusion that this, or any other country, is the most racist is beyond me and makes me wonder why anyone would want to make that kind of statement much less that kind of determination, other than to fan racial tensions.
I suggest you go fan the flames of hate somewhere else, and I don't care your race, religion, or country of origin.
In my observation, the vast majority of Americans, believe in giving everyone an equal opportunity to demonstrate to the people around them and the world what kind of people they are through their acts, words and deeds. Most Americans don't judge others simply on the language they speak, the color of their skin or the God they pray to.
Perhaps you should go get your facts straight and maybe then you'll be less bigoted towards Americans.

I can tell you from first-hand experience living elsewhere that that's not true.
However, the US does have an inordinate obsession with race - but, while the US harbors a great number of racists, ours is not a racist society.
By the way, I say this even while I am among the mere 6% or so of Americans who identify racism as our most significant national issue. Racism is a scourge - but the US is NOT the most racist nation, not even close, in fact.
You should either cite studies, or at least anecdotes, or do some reading and traveling. All you've done is drop a bomb in a forum.

We're actually one of the least racist countries. Many places have laws against racism, and increased punishments for crimes involving race. Some other countries have institutionalized and tolerated racism just because thousands of years ago you were part of a different family (think Shiite, Sunni, or Hutu Tutsi, where the people are practically the same race). We have it a lot better here than you might think.

We're not. The difference here is that we don't sweep it under the carpet. That's all to the good--pulling the rats out of their holes and openly confronting them is the best way to fight racism.
What is specific to America is that the core of racism here is directed against African-americans (though the bigots will --and do--attack any minority when they think they can get away with it).
But regardless of the target, bigotry is bigotry--and is far more prevalent in many other countries than in the United States.

Racism is hate based on race; but there are other forms of hate directed towards groups of people. Most of the Middle East won't even recognize Israel as a nation and people are prejudiced against red-heads in the U.K. Many Muslim countries treat their women as second class citizens and Arabs in Sudan are killing hundreds of thousands of blacks and Christians in Darfur. In response to Lavrenti Beria, you didn't mention that most of the conservative Republicans of today were segregationists during the Civil Rights movement, you didn't mention that only one Republican candidate showed up to the Univision and NAACP debates, and you didn't mention when Trent Lott talked about the illegal immigrants and electric fences as if they were livestock. You also didn't mention how the Bush campaign beat John McCain in the South (which is mostly Republican) by stating that John McCain had a black child just because he is a decent human being who adopted a child from Bangladesh (who is Asian by the way). There are racists from all religions and ideologies.

The suggestion that you should travel is a good one. If you are a US citizen, you will be discriminated against in many countries. The US is one of the least racist countries in the world. Sometimes it appears that we are more racist because our racial tensions make headlines. That is a good thing, it means that we are trying to do something about it. Are we perfect? Of course not and we never will be. We have made tremendous progress in 40 years though.

Well, I wouldn't consider America to be the most racist country in the world, but race issues is evidently a huge problem here. If anything I would consider South Africa to be the MOST RACIST country in the world. Despite this, America is still a racist country. Reason is because there is a large diversity of people living here. Also, look at American history, and how unfairly minorities were treated 40 years ago. But if you haven't noticed, racism in America is still present but it's a different kind of racism. 40 years ago, people were free to express their racism verbally without consequence, but now people seem to possess inner racism and dare not to express it.
