I may be just imagining things during regular season-that the teams line up on the field to do the traditional "good game" claps. (Maybe they don't.) But if they do....

Why does it stop during post season play?

I have been watching the ALCS with my fiance (a new baseball fan-avid soccer fan) and he pointed it out to me and asked why. In being able to answer all other questions about baseball that he had, I could not answer this one.

please explain.

It should be something done the way the Dodgers did it a few years ago. They were beaten in the LCS and instead of sitting in the dugout crying, they came out, en mass, to congratulate the other team. LA has class. So does St. Louis. So should the rest of baseball, but they don't.

It's just not a baseball thing. Whereas in football or ocqui, where all the players are on the sideline or bench, that's not the case in baseball. The relievers are way out in the bullpens, anyone out of the game (baseball being single-substitution) is probably showered, the whole squad just isn't available. And waiting for everyone to show up kills the spontaneity of the moment.

The only time I can recall seeing MLB teams do the well-played/congratulations chain was after the 2004 NLDS between LA and St. Louis, and that was because the Dodgers explicitly wanted to do it.

Ed. for clarity: the winning team will almost always do its own go-round (except in the case of clinchers, where we witness dogpiles). But between teams, victor and vanquished, nope, never seen that but the one time.

Postseason or regular season, baseball teams do not typically shake each others hand above the high school level.

Addition: Tulo Girl, I have been to all of the games so far this postseason and they have not shook the hands of the other team at all. They have of their own team and that may be what you are thinking.

Maybe they just aren't showing it on TV. I would think that after 162 regular season games, the playoffs would be a bad time to stop such a ritual.

I would love to see BOTH teams shake hands with one another after the end of a playoff series, much like they do in hockey. That is the only sport that I've ever seen such a thing take place.

That's interesting...I've watched every single one of the NLCS games (because of the Rockies) and the Rockies always do that....I've seen them do it....
I think it would be a good thing to start that both teams would line up and congratulate each other. My brothers baseball team did that, but maybe that's only because it was coach pitch...But still...I think they should do that...

When do they ever congratulate the other team? I've been to a million games in my life and only the winning team will congratulate each other on the field.

No. Teams only do that with themselves. They do not congratulate each other.

I think they are doing it - in fact, I have been to three playoff games and am postive they are doing it.
