I have to disagree with the "chemicals don't work" statements being made. I know of a septic service out of Massachusetts that uses a chemical treatment called PowerPAC. It adds natural bacteria to the waste to help break it down and work as a biodegradable catalyst. Septic systems and tanks as they are now are fine and are environmentally friendly as long as they aren't old and cracked or full to the point of overflowing. Dropping in an additive like PowerPAC can help to keep waste evironmentally safe. I believe BlueWater Septic is the name of the company that carries this treatment. I have not heard of Terra-lift. Why would you want to experiment with things that may or may not work? Septic tanks have been around and worked for many years. They are simple and effective plus, once installed, need only be treated properly (watching what you flush into them) are pretty non-maintenance.

I agree- chemicals don't work. However- you can use a series of ponds with native plants and organisms in them. There are many nature centers and environmentally friendly businesses using this method. It also adds nice landscaping possibilities in addition to attracting wildlife!
