Considering this question is being asked from an animation standpoint, the answer is probably moot.
From a comics standpoint, Superman & Batman are friends with a mutual respect for each other's power and ability. They each know that their goals are the same, though their methods may differ. Superman has even given Batman a Kryptonite ring, trusting him to be the one to stop him if he ever loses control.

Whether it's in the comics or the cartoons I think the relationship is an unspoken love ( LIKE BROTHERS) between the two of them. Superman is concerned for the Batman in that he afraid he's becoming more detached from society eventually becoming what he hates the most. The Batman is concerned for Superman in that here is this man (his brother) w/ the power of a god basically, and at any given point he can taken over/ lose control and be turned or turn against the world, and it will most likely fall to him to stop him (kill him maybe) and herein lies the on again off again tension between the two.

At one time Superman and Batman did not like each other. I don't know if this went on in the 1970's, but I know in the 1980's they were often portrayed as disliking each other, and would be insulting and sarcastic to each other. I've read some of those 80's comics rescently and it seems ridiculous. I think that hate for each other was written out of continuity.
In the current comics, they are friends. They are two of the founding members of the Justice League of America and there is a comic called "Superman/Batman" that shows them as teammates fighting the forces of evil.

Not really. Batman and Superman are close friends and colleagues. While they have different approaches to fighting crimes, they respect each other. Batman was the only one on Earth that Superman would trust to hold a piece of Kryptonite so in the event Superman went rogue, there was a way to stop him. So, no, I'd say they don't hate each other.

They don't HATE each other, nor do they exactly like one another. but they have different opinions about how to do their respective jobs.
You need to look at the Psychology of both characters,
Batman is the personality and BW is the disguise, whereas CK is the Person, and Superman is the disguise he uses to help people.
Batman is an Orphan, while CK typically has one or both parents well into adulthood
CK could be a god, but hides as a mortal, pining for Lois.
Batman is singularly focused, and typically uses women only as pieces to his disguise.
Batman is extreme and rough, while CK is often reserved, and genial. because lets face it if Superman, w/ his powers were to have Batman's Mindset the Human race would be screwed.
so they do respect each other, in as much as they know the other means well and that they have the same goals, but I doubt that they 'hang out' and exchange Holiday cards

Superman just doesnt want Batman busting baddies on his turf, just like police, they dont want the fbi or outside agencies coming in, besides how much help could batman give superman. Batman would be mad if Superman came in to clean up Gotham. And Robin has no real opinion, only what Batman tells him to think

I think that some writers are still taking the Batman/Superman relationship ideas from the storyline Dark Knight Returns (Frank Miller). But I feel that they are an respected understanding for each other and are friends.
Anyway, I just read this and it explains Superman and Batman relationship. Scroll down to #4

i won't said that they don't hate each other, sometimes they don't care about each other. i like batman more than superman, because he is a dark heroes that doesn't give a damn about saving the days unless he want to, superman is cool, but he always want to save the day.

Written by someone who obviously has not seen the Justice League Unlimited cartoon series.
Both Bats and Supes respect each other. There can often be differences of opinion on how each of them pursues villains.
Supes doesn't want to hurt people because he is so powerful he's afraid to really cut loose on someone. Bats is more aggressive in his pursuit of justice and will often use violence to defeat the bad guys.
But they both respect life and they both will not take a villain's life if they can help it.
