If my server has so much money that they can waste it on such frivolous things, they must not need the money so badly, right?

Uh...okay, yeah.
You reeeally shouldn't be judging and jipping the people who bring you your FOOD.
If I was your waitress and you never tipped me, even if I did a damn good job, I'd make sure to spit in your coffee every time you came in there. (Not really, but the evil thoughts would be there.)
This question just makes me angry, of course you TIP THEM! They are performing a service for YOU, it shouldn't matter what they have inked all over themselves. What should matter, is if they serve you well.
If they are a jackass, don't tip them.
If they were courteous, prompt, and professional, tip them.
Simple.
And you do realize that a tattoo is permanent right? Meaning that they could have gotten those tattoos YEARS ago, a tattoo is not a sign of economic security.
So why don't you stop being such a tightwad and cough up that extra 3 bucks for a server who probably didn't think YOU were much to look at either.
Man, server's are paid SO crappily. I can't believe you would even CONSIDER not tipping someone just because they have a few tattoos. That just shows how shallow you are.
I mean, I could understand if you had said "They were rude to me and I think they may have dropped my sandwich on the floor" but to say "I don't like their tattoos and I think they're a waste", it really says something about your crappy character.
My father always says, "You can tell a lot about a man by the way they treat the waiters."
Yeah, you've just made your personality REAL clear on this one.

Tips aren't from how they look. It depends on their service. It's common courtesy to leave a tip. Servers make less money than minimum wage so they work hard to earn tips and depend on them.

If you don't leave a tip and go back, you might get crappy service from them.

Maybe you're judging too quickly. Perhaps your server used to have a lot of money, got the tattoos and then got really sick, had to use all their money to get better, and was forced to work at that place to earn money back.

Never judge how much you tip by how they look. You're tipping for their good service. Also, a lot of places have to share their tip with the kitchen staff, bus boys, hosts, etc. It's not just for the server

Did it ever come to you that maybe this server has a friend that is a tattoo artist and he gets them done for free?? hmmm... what a concept huh?? what an *** you are. it's people like you that make the rest of us sick. I used to be a server and actually seeing some one ask such a stupid question...it blows my mind, this quesrtion really makes me mad. You tip a server if you were impressed by the service and if you were not impressed then you dont tip...jackass

Yes, you still need to leave a tip! Regardless of whether or not they have tattoos and/or if you agree with it...they are working and giving you service that if done well, should be rewarded. You don't get to dictate how people spend their money...I am sure you purchase items that others would find frivolous...to each their own. Don't judge and be kind!

It's not about needing your money, they are providing a service to you. Servers get tipped as long as they deserve it. Just because they have tattoos, doesn't mean that they don't need the money. If everyone thought the way you do, then they would be broke. If you can not afford to tip, then you should eat fast food and not dine in.

Wow, the same could go for expensive clothing, jewelry, or grooming products. How someone spends their money is no reflection on their service. And not all servers are having a hard time financially. They enjoy the job and believe it or not, can make a great living with flexible hours.
So yes, you still need to tip them as they did their job in serving you, not asking financial advice on how they should spend the money they earn.

magley64 you must have been born in the 20's. i don't understand where you get this absurd idea. just beause you have a house or a nice car, does that mean that you should not get a paycheck? getting tattoos is simply freedom of expression. i have multiple tatoos and am also an excellent, clean, and friendly server.

Thats like someone saying they dont want to pay you for the service you provide to them because you drive a BMW...of course you should still get paid for whatever it is you do.

The way he spends money is none of your concern.... he is working for it and providing a service... you -should- leave a tip...

I don't know about other states but in Texas servers only get paid 2.13 an hour... the rest of their income is made up in tips....

Wow....that's a pretty narrow-minded thought. I assume you've never spent money on anything frivolous? You must have sooooo much money stored away for only the barest necessities? Of course you have to leave a tip! What does it matter what they spend it on?

what the hell does having tats have to do with tipping? you don't know what they did for the tats, alot of which is legal, such as, say, a gift from a friend. what kind of a moron do you have to be to not tip on grounds of how a person will spend it? do all waitstaff a favour, and eat in from now on.
