I have to step on the break and either go from reverse to park or just push it into park and turn the keys and the car will start. If not the car will not start at all.

you need to have the shifter readjusted on it,for some reason it has come out of adjustment and that's what has caused this to happen any repair shop can do this for you though that's a simple repair,probably around 30 bucks to get fixed,good luck with it.

Its probably the safety switch that keeps it from starting in gear. Probably need to call a mechanic you trust. Stay away from the Nissan dealer unless you have money to burn.

this happened to my girlfriend and when I looked under the hood the battery had fell and was not allowing the car to go into park. I just put the battery back in it's proper place and everything was just fine

Safety switch (gear position switch) on the side of the trans is going out. No biggie.
