That is a really, really good question especially in this day and age when there's a "magic pill" for just about everything.. If you are depressed you no longer do the things that once made you happy... For instance if you like to do art/painting you no longer get any sense of happiness while doing such things or just stop doing them all together.. You have feelings of sadness or longing all the time that do not go away.. Some people depression brings on pain/sleepyness or even suicide. Chances are if you are just "blue" every now and again you aren't depressed. If you aren't feeling yourself for long periods of time I would suggest speaking with a therapist.. Most/some insurance companies cover mental-health visits for a length of time.. It might be good to speak with a professional to see if you may need meds or just someone to listen and help you. It's very, very good to seek therapy not shameful at all.... Good luck

Depression is a very serious disease. I can tell you from experience that some of the signs are feeling tired. I mean really tired, taking a nap, and feeling like you've never slept. Then wanting to do it over again. Not wanting to get dressed. Feeling like you would rather just stay at home and read a magazine than go to your best friends Wedding. Your eating habits will be different, and you might tend to rip one head off for no apparent reason, other than it felt good to you at the time.
Alot of people that are depressed tend to turn to drugs or alcohol, because it inhibits the mood sensors. This is not a good idea!
If you think you are deppred seek medical attention.

Depression has many different levels. It can be just feeling sad, or it can make you feel lonely, good for nothing..or to it's extreme suicidal. Is something going on in your life that perhaps has you feeling not so happy go lucky?
It can be very debilitating.
Sometimes a good talk with a close friend can be a big help, or a Priest, Minister or Rabbi..if you feel the need to get something off your chest.
Good luck

Depression is usually something you feel over the coarse of a few weeks, constantly and more, rather than just feeling down for a few days, ya know? So if it does become an issue that you find is just not going away, i would definitely talk to a doctor about it. good luck!

Check you’re routine. You could just be living a mundane life-style. Try some new things, eat different places, and take a different route to work. Unhappiness usually accompanies depression. Check your surroundings. The people you associate with and the books you read determine who you are, so check to see if you mirror your friends.
My opinion is that your attitude and happiness is a choice, so choose to be happy!
Good luck!

depression is something made up by psychologists / pschiatrists to prescribe more medicine than a person could use in a lifetime. the kickbacks on prescription meds is a wonderful way for them to make extra money.
all depressive states can be overcome with redirection of thought patterns. and you don't need meds or a psyche to do that

I guess the simple definition would be a stable mood of complete despair and hopelessness punctuated by the inability or lack of motivation to enjoy the things one used to enjoy or go about their daily business without wanting to die.

DEPRESSION IS A CHEMICAL IMBALANCE IN THE BRAIN, WHICH CAN BE TREATED WITH MEDICATION, AND OR THERAPY. YOU CAN BE TESTED TO SEE IF THIS FEELING YOU ARE EXPERIENCING IS DEPRESSION OR A SYMPTOM OF A LESSER MOOD DISORDER OR IF IT IS AT ALL. ASK YOUR DOCTOR.
