He also thinks that the parents of rich kids should buy the rich kids their own health insurance. Right again?

With all the pressing responsibilities facing the nation, "One thing Congress should not be doing is sorting out the historical record of the Ottoman Empire," he said.

goldenrae...thanks for the site...very interesting and I'll check in on it during debates. I'm the one who characterized SCHIP as funding healthcare for rich kids, though ;)

Agreed, on both counts. It is not of current interest to anyone what the Ottoman Turks did a hundred years ago. Nor is it proper to demand that I pay through taxes for medical care for your kids; that is your responsibility, not mine.

Not really -- because he took time away from whatever he was doing to comment on the issue -- and on many other issues.
A Congressional resolution is nothing more than a statement by Congress -- it's the procedural way they (as a whole) expresses an opinion -- and Congress has non-binding resolutions dozens of times a year, on many different subjects -- some (many) a waste of time -- but this is really no different than any other one..
And it's no different than Congress taking the time to vote on whether to say they don't like MoveOn.org for its ad about Patraeus -- both are just Congress expressing an opinion -- and have no legal value or effect. So, either Congress gets to express their opinion -- whether you agree with them or not -- or they don't, at all.
As for "parents of rich kids" -- sure, making parents pay for their kids health insurance based on income is fine -- and limiting federal aid to low-income families is fine -- but Bush certainly has more important things to deal with than what income level is the cut off line -- and if he's going to be that nitpicky about federal spending, he should start by ending the wasted billions per month on certain federal programs -- rather than denying kids health insurance because of cost concerns.

Actually I do agree that we should not be commenting on what the Ottoman Turks did 92 years ago. It is totally irrelevant to today's events.
I do not agree with his assessment of what constitutes wealthy. In some parts of the country 82 thousand for a family of 4 is huge money in other places it is barely making it. That is not for the President to decide.
Bush and his Republican buddies have no empathy for others. They are selfish and greedy so it is no wonder they would oppose any help for struggling families.

Who was it who said, "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it"?
I dunno either, but even if it's just an urban legend that *anyone* said it, it's clearly a statement worth considering.
In defending the Turk-Bush position and castigating supporters (like me) of the genocide recognition, you are saying that morality is to be indulged merely when convenient.
**News Flash** - Morality is our compass, and whoever would abandon it for expediency will find that he has no soul at all.
Does the United States still have a soul? Does the United States stand for anything? If, as you would no doubt have it, Iraq was invaded to remove a ruthless dictator who engaged in massacres (which are lesser than genocides), then how is your conscience not sullied - if not eviscerated - by turning a blind eye toward inhumanity elsewhere?

Where the hell did you get the idea that the SChip program allows rich parents to get free health care? I can guess. It's the rightie idiots on the radio.
As for Armenia and Turkey I agree with Bush that now is not the time. I'll give him 1 in 7 years.

He's such a "Zen" president. there is no past, there is no future, there is only the now.
As much that Mr Bush says, it is heavy on simplicity and light on facts. What is 'rich'? At what level SHOULD the government be a safety net and provide health care? "poor kids"? likewise a generalized statement with zero facts.
The state of Israel is a direct result of the horrors imposed upon them in WWII. Because people/governments held themselves accountable of their inaction of the past. If our relations with a sovereign nation are so tenious that the recognition (and revulsion) of genocide 100 years ago ruins the relationship, I would argue that we are not such strong allies.

I agree we have better things to do then pick a fight with the Turks over long over due issues when more pressing issues are present and of more concern to our nation.
One more thing, when the president who the average voter says looks like a baboon and have an IQ of one and such a president says you got better things to do and has most of those who bash him agree with him, then I guess there is something quite wrong with your priorities and decision making processes, don't cha think?

Absolutely! You have to wonder about the Democrats timing; why now, when this happened ninety years ago? Are we also going to condemn the Egyptians for mistreating Moses?
And is this really helping the situation in northern Iraq? This is NOT a good time to cheese off the Turks, Mrs. Pelosi!
