you are 100% right it is the technology but imagine 375 million chinese women landing in this country at once. we would not stand a chance.neither would our dogs and cats.

scuba dude please, don;t say something is a FACT just becasue your a proud vet. I think that an army of about I billion people is more powerful than our little military, besides half of our military doesn't even want to be in the military any more. This would be a great time for the chinese to take control of this country hopefully they don't

The Chinese army is one of the largest in the world. So was the Romans. So were the Muslims when they nearly conquered the world. So was Alexander the Great's army. We all know about numbers, but technology does indeed make a statement, and China cannot boast that yet.
Numbers matter, but where are all the empires that I listed up there? Stopped by a military far smaller. It's how the world turns. America will not be forever, nor will China. They can have all the people they want, doesn't mean they are any good.
Also, the United States military is volunteer. If they want to join they can. They know what they are getting into, especially today. Just as you accuse scuba for being biased for being in the military, so are you for not. The men and women serving today may not want to be there, but I don't WANT to go to work, but I do. They do what they know is right, and follow their superior officers. Take care, and don't try to scare anyone with numbers.

I have several friends that are in the Army and Marines in the US Military, as well as several relatives that have been in the armed services (marines, navy, & army). I dont know if we are still the strongest in the world, but I would bet that we are definitely in the top 2 or 3. The days of shear numbers being the strength of a military are long over. I think that that died with the second world war. So I dont think that the chinese are any stronger just because of the shear amount of people they have. A few well trained people with the right technology can overpower a large force of hand to hand armed people anyday.
Oh and just because our recent military endevors have gone amok, does not mean our military has lost its strength. It just means that the leadership has lost it's strength. We still train our men and women to be able to take on several, if not more, of another's forces. It's just that sometimes they are ordered to do things that would not be of the best interest, due to short sightedness. And remember, the US is the one that other countries turn to first when they need help. And that is probably where the problem lies. We help too much, especically for people who wont help themselves. And we get reamed in the process.
P.S. I dont mean to come across as arrogant or ethnocentic, but I'm just stating what I have learned from all sorts of sources, military and media, over the years.
EDIT:
I would also like to note that the tactic of Total War that General Sherman used in the US Civil War would probably work much better against the insurgents and rebels in Iraq. Too bad we cant use it anymore.

The U.S. claim to have the strongest army in the world, but it's just propaganda. They have already shown that they are not nearly as strong as they think they are.
Note that it's not just about how many soldiers they have though. The kind of weapons and technology that armies have matters a lot too. A two-man army that owns a nuke is stronger than a 1 million man army with bows and arrows. ;)
I still don't think the U.S. army is the strongest in the world though.

It is a fact...strength does not lie in numbers alone...otherwise the North would have destroys the Confederate armies in less than 6 months.
FACT: The United States Military is the single most powerful military in the history of planet Earth. Period.

Volume and force alone, yes, maybe the US army is the strongest.
But being a Brit, I'd love to see how the best US has to offer would fare against our SAS.

Yeah what if... The fact remains that we have the strongest military in the world. It is proven by our military presence over the course of hundreds of years.
China is more populated, but their militaries are weak.
Interesting thought though.
