Yes, I hate that too. It sounds so "preachy", makes my skin crawl.

I would say that you knew she was right but you couldn't handle the truth so you picked on the most unrelated thing you possibly could. What do you want her to call you? Honey? You have a name for a reason, tons of people will use it in the real world. Get used to it, along with others giving you lectures.

It bothers me when my family calls me anything but my name. I hate it how many other Michelles there are at my school. One in my first period class, and 1 that rides my bus. I hate it when OTHER people call OTHER Michelles by THEIR name.
But no, when people say my name, it doesn't seem like a lecture.

I hated it when I was young, I knew if my Mom used my full name I was in some kind of trouble, now when she does it's usually because she disagrees with what I'm saying and I just blow it off.

Nope, it is your name!! What is a name? What people call you. Why does it bug you?
I think it bothers you because you did something wrong, not that they are saying your name. What do you think? All my mom has to do is give me a look and I can feel really small... but it doesn't have anything to do with my name.

particular!! It regarded like each and every physique on my husbands facet of the relatives hated our sons call techniques we had. We narrowed all of it the way down to , and then picked it, yet because of the fact that each and every physique became bashing each and every of the names, we stored his call secret till he became born and we despatched the call to the delivery certificates people. We picked Sawyer, i haven't met the different little one's named Sawyer yet. We additionally had Colby and James as first names. My MIL mentioned she did no longer think of the names have been ethnic adequate, and we mandatory to make effective we've been being observant to each physique's background. My husband is 0.5 Cuban 0.5 Mexican, and his finished first call is Alex. I requested her the place my husband ethnic call became, and whilst she could no longer tell me, I mentioned i might call my son what i wished, she named her 4 young ones, i will call mine! there became additionally a huge communicate on regardless of if my husbands grandparents may be able to pronounce my sons call, because of the fact that they do no longer talk distinct English, yet they are doing rather nicely together with his call, and are finding for a powerful nickname for him. My facet of the relatives wasn't delighted with the names to a lot, yet at last each and every physique discovered that i'm getting to call him regardless of i choose, and that they are going to basically stay with it. each and every physique loves my little one boy, and that they the two like or love his call now, and in the event that they do no longer, they only shop it to themselves.

YES it bugs me! Especially when they're being condescending!
The only person that could get away with it was my grandmother, who passed away last December. Every time I came to her house, she would say, "Well, Emily Kathryn, tell me something new."
I miss that.

OMG!
I know what you mean...I hate when they use my real, whole name cause it feels like they only do that when they're mad at me. Like, if they are irritated, they will say my name after every sentence! Annoying! Sounds like Ms. Trunchbull on Matilda when she's like "Amanda Twitt!" lol

I agree. It is a very subtle effect but somehow feels intimidating unless it is with a greeting or a good bye.

Yes.
And it bugs me even more when near-strangers use my first name -- particularly sales people on the phone, they aint never going to sell anything to me.
Thats how I talk to my pets.

LOL its so funny when that happens. My mom always says my name and it always sounds like she's mad at me, but she never is. lol its just the tone fo the voice i guess. its ok though. i'm named after my grandma so we both become "Cat" whenever we're around relatives... we both turn our heads and look around like, "who said my name"
