There are a few things you can change in our Contacts List via the Contacts Options. You can view these options by clicking on Options in the upper right corner, then select Mail Options from the list, (at the very top of the list), then again click on Contact Options in the list to the left at the very bottom.
You are then greeted with a page containing several categories: Under Personalization: General Preferences, Edit Categories, (which is where we can create categories for our Contract List), and four more under Management.
After clicking on Edit Categories, you come to a page with a list of categories, and you then click the blue link Edit at the end. However, right before the Edit option is the list which contains the current Ordering of each category. Mine all are: Contacts Sorted by First Name. Once I click on the Edit link for one of these categories a new page appears with further options. Here you have three options: First Name, Last Name, or Email address.
To the left of the Edit Contacts page you will find an Option at the top left called: Add Category. Here you can add a category called Friends, or Family, etc. It will then be added to the list to the right.
We also have the ability to create address lists, such as mailing lists. This could be a method of sorting our most used Contacts into a List which is then easily accessed by clicking on that List.
So, we do have options for altering how our Contacts are listed and shown in our Address Book. While the choices could be a bit better, (hopefully they will be in future releases of Yahoo! Mail) at least we have some choice.
Have a nice day!
*Edit* Once you create a Category, you can then go into General preferences and select the Default Category to view. Here we can choose a self made Category, such as Friends or Family to be listed first when we click on Contacts. This makes it easy to keep our most used addresses in easy to access format.

That would be great to be able to move them around and put those that are regulars first.
