Welcome to adulthood and life in America.
When the government does not work in the best interest of its citizens, we are all required to work harder, thereby causing less time for family and enjoying life.
It is your responsibility as an adult American to be informed and active in the political issues that affect you and the issues you are most concerned about. Change requires that you and your generation to become more politically active and vote.
If you don't vote, you can't complain.

People love to say politics has nothing to do with this or that but the fact is government and politics have to do with absolutely everything in your life. Who you marry, your rights to raise your children or even whether or not you have children.
If you care anything about life, you should also care about government. I believe it's terribly sad that schools don't discuss politics anymore. I hear a history teacher is ousted because he spoke about politics yet there is nothing more intertwined with politics and government than history.
Anyway, join some political groups or campaigns, talk to people and learn more about the whole process. It's slow and cumbersome and nothing is more important.
And work has taken over everyones life, no doubt. I can not believe the differnece even since the 80s. It's acceptable to work way over 40 hours with no "legal" breaks or lunches and people accept that.
Debt can entrap you, enslave you so that you can't leave a job. Keep your spending and your life simple so you and your family will be more free.
Edit: I wanted to add something younger people don't realize. People are working much harder and sacrificing politics, reading, leisure and family.People have been convinced that the employers(especially large corporate) profit is more important-always than workers rights. Anything that looks like workers rights is dismissed as socialist/communist, which is not true at all. Corporations don't have to be "responsible" yet we are constantly told we must be responsible.

Well--studying political science may not be your interest--and that's okay. You don't have to major in it, after all!.
But do make sure you know the basics--the Constitution (and what it means), how our system of government works, and what your rights and responsibilities as acitizen are.
Beyond that--make sure you are informed on the issues. By informed, I don't mean jst know what is said on the evening news. Listen closely--and listen to both sides in a debate with an open mind.
And GET INVOLVED. That does not mean just voting. If you feel strongly about an issue--e-mailor write your representatives at the local, state, or federal level.
Getting involved may or may not mean being politically active--but it does mean being involved in your community and trying to make a difference. And I'll guarantee there are things you can do to make things better that are also things you are interested in. Below are three examples of what I mean--
>a friend of mine cares very much about the environment--and wants to make a difference. He studied biology and engineering, and now works as an environmental engineer.
>Another friend of mine usese his talants as a restaurant exectutive to volunteer with various projects that provide food to the homeless.
>Several people I know (myself included) are interested inhistory (I am a historian). Besides our jobs, we also volunteer as tour guides and in othe rroles for local organizations, helping the public and especially children learn about the history and folkways of our state.
There are ways to get involved politically as well, of course--volunteering on political campaigns, attending public meetings on local issues, etc. But the point is--you can make a difference--just find the way that's right for you.

This is happening to America because we are paying a lot of taxes just so the Government can support certain regime overseas, sometimes to some harebrained projects.
In the average American family, both parents needs to work to make both ends meet, due to rising prices and taxes.

We have a higher standard of living at any time in US history.
In the past if you were a farmer you would get up before dawn, go to the fields and not return till dusk. A break was on Sunday when the family went to church. Factory workers worked 12 hour shifts. The truth of the matter is we have it made compared to workers in the past. The advantage then in the 40's and 50's companies provided employees with a pensions and health care upon retirement.
We could emulate Europe where the work weeks are shorter and vacations longer but look at the unemployment rates. It should tell you something.
The rising cost of health care has bankrupted many pension programs. Who's to blame? Trial lawyers.

Don't worry about it. Just live for today. We've only got about a year, maybe less until an all out world war starts. What happens then is anybody's guess...
Go ahead and give me all the " thumbs down " you want. But you will see shortly just how right I am. It's coming. All the " players " are positioning themselves as I type this. It's only a matter of time. Won't be long until none of this matters anymore...

Take heart, Grady! I live in a simple neighborhood with single-income families.
Life doesn't have to be so complicated.
History will explain why our constitution makes so much sense. The rest is politics (which can be fun, if one has the time...)

It all begins with politics. If you want things to change, you have to be willing to be a part of the solution and not just expect others to bring about the change you desire.

People have to work more to pay the taxes that the Nanny state has saddled us with. I think tax freedom day, that is the day you stop working to pay your taxes, and start working for yourself is near the middle of May.
Your generation needs to get behind the Fair tax - that is a consumption tax as opposed to an income tax. And demand term limits be imposed on the Senate and the House.

Stop whining on here, learn how politics and government work, then get involved and change things to what you want.
