Stephen Colbert announced his candidacy for president on "The Colbert Report," tossing his satirical hat into the ring of an already crowded race. "I shall seek the office of the President of the United States," announced Colbert on his Comedy Central show Tuesday, as red, white and blue balloons fell around him.

I say WHY NOT? As if Clinton, Obama, Edwards, Romney, Guiliani, or Thompson would be any worse! You want a viable 3rd party candidate ladies and gentlemen? THIS is about as close as we're all going to get! Imagine the message this would send to Washington if the host of a Comedy Central spin off from "The Daily Show" actually won the 2008 election! I say let's do it! COLBERT 08!

don't get me wrong, i love Colbert and the Colbert Report....but if Colbert were to even get 5% of the vote i think even he would agree that the mockery and degeneration of the current political system and climate in America would have reached an all time cynical low.

How refreshing would that be to actually have someone run for office who doesn’t have anybody's hands in his/her pockets?

We need to get an actual PERSON in the white house again and not some career politician. Our forefathers had never meant for our Congress offices to become full-time positions.

I have a better idea than a comedian… How about a small business owner? If he could run the government like he needs to run his business, many of the problems would be solved. I know it is easier said than done, but we need a whole change of mentality in Washington D.C.

Spleenwater is right. I mean, I'd vote for Colbert I think he's a genious, but I think if he did win we'd all be disappointed. We'd look upon Colbert and his decisions with scorn. We'd expect him to make everything right, and like all before him (assuming he wins) he won't be entirely capable of delivering.

He wouldn't be able to be the funny man he is if he won, he'd have to get serious and I don't think we'd prefer that side of him.

If Minnesota can elect a professional wrestler as governor and California can elect a foreign born weightlifter/actor, then Stephen seems as qualified as anyone else for President.

Our early presidents weren't 'qualified' but they did think on their feet (metaphorically).

Colbert! Sure! The speeches will at least be funny - and have that truthiness that has been lacking in the last decades.

There are too many uneducated voters that will vote for him because they think it is "fun" or because it "is against the system". I see others talk about throwing away votes on candidates such as Ron Paul. If people would quit thinking like this, then these "second tier" candidates would have a chance to get elected, and the election system would work as it was intended. If more people would educate themselves on politics and quit dismissing it as boring and not applying to their lives, then maybe these second tier candidates would actually have a chance, and people with any sense would not be voting for Colbert (who I do love BTW).

by skill of electing any candidate you have placed your self able to have confidence no be counted in case you be attentive to it or no longer. specifically situations all applicants lie, some greater that others. all of us be attentive to the Clintons' previous checklist of reality. Obama is amazingly very like them. He lies like each and every of something. the project is that we mere mortals won't be able to be attentive to what he's thinking. He does no longer have greater than a number of a checklist to bypass by skill of. What he basically says is that he will lead us mortals to the promised land. He could like us to have self assurance that, yet his motivation is to make history by skill of being the 1st African-American president of usa. shall we in basic terms do worse if Huckabee grew to become into miraculously elected. McCain on the different hand is an previous experienced baby-kisser who in basic terms needs to steer his loved usa forward to greater advantageous issues. while situations have been tough for him. He stood steadfast for his ideals and love for his usa. Can one relatively have self assurance the two Clinton or Obama might desire to tournament him? i do no longer.

Colbert and Mayor McCheese would certainly be better than the republican crop of serial marriage supporters, and much more entertaining.

I hate when these comedians do stuff like this just to beef up their act.
