Because in many countries -- including the US -- there is a legal requirement that people be convicted at a trial before they are subject to punishment -- and brutal beating is not one of the sentences allowed in the US.

You may think that some people don't deserve a trial -- but once you start down that road, and allow for mob lynchings -- we lose the basic premise of the criminal justice system, which is that the rule of law must come first.

Oh tough guy - when you have your own country, you can make the rules about what to do with people you arrest there.

Like everyone else arrested, he is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

I don't have time or space to go into details here, but the rights that afford this have a long history, evolving form the Magna Carta inthe 13th century.
