What a dumb move! She should have just given the dog to the family that wants it... And that show of emotion? How can an animal shelter have that much Nazi-like control over the situation?
I'm eating a dog for lunch in protest.

OK, now I've read the latest story (about Ellen asking for the situation to subside, and that she won't address it publicly anymore) & I get it... She did give the animal to the hairdresser's family. I wonder how the animal shelter found out?

here's the latest story: http://home.peoplepc.com/psp/newsstory.asp?cat=TopStories&referrer=welcome&id=20071018/4716da40_3ca6_15526200710186462066

I heard this on the radio:

The animal shelter people say it's for the safety of the dog because children under 14 know how to treat a dog better. They claim kids under 14 have the tendency to pull and tug at a dog (especially if it's a small dog like this one), which can make the dog angry and bite them. The parent will, in turn, blame the dog and may put the dog up for adoption. Agencies who specialize in putting $$ dogs up for adoption screen and monitor how well the animal gets along with the new owner.

Ellen should just get this family another dog. She has the money. The agency is also at fault for not fully monitoring how well the dog gets along with her cats, but in the end, Ellen signed a contract. She should've asked the agency what to do about it since the dog wasn't getting along with her cats (if the dog needs additional training or whatever). She's not caring for the welfare of the dog at all and since the agency is sticking to it's guns and keeping the dog, it shows that people are fed up with celebrities acting like they're exempt from the rules because of their high-profile status.

The shelters stand that rules are rules is typically a good move, and I do understand it- but I think they are just being a bit stupid in this case!

I am a shelter worker, so I do get it, but come on, this woman that they are fighting could easily fund them for years! And, more important than money, one GOOD thing said about that shelter on her show could get every pet they have adopted! I don't care for Ellen, but if the dog is in a good home, WHO CARES?? That dog (Iggy) isn't in danger, but what about the one that just died because Iggy is now taking what could be an open space? I want to know why they gave a Brussels to someone with cats to begin with(brussels are known to chase cats, and cats are bad for those bug eyes!), but then, I guess having an eye scratched out is much better than an 11 year old putting barbie clothes on him!!

After all this mess, I doubt that shelter will last 6 months.

BTW, other than her "homosexual agenda", Ellen has not used her celebrity status to obtain favor. She is not like the stars who break laws then expects a get out of jail free card. I think comparing her to those people is a little out there!

The shelter should give the dog back to its new family. People don't read the paperwork for half the things they are signing. The shelters rule that there should be no children under 14 in the adoptive home is ridiculous.

The shelter is being stupid, they are trying to say that her assistant is threatening them. If you read the story in new york times, that is what they say. Ellens assistant left a "threatening" vm. But they have a transcript and its not threatening at all. It just says, hey lets get this taken care of.
But it seems as if they are just trying to get the dog back to the family. This shelter is being really stubborn and sticking by the rules no matter what, they should be ashamed of themselves.

I can't believe the shelter took the dog away. Ellen made a mistake. Nobody is perfect, but as long as it is a good home, the shelter should have never taken the dog away. That is just rediculous. That is just cruel.

I don't like Ellen, but that shelter is stupid. If someone came to MY house to take MY dog, the only thing that they would be leaving with is a butt-whipping. People need to learn that dogs are dogs, dogs are not people. I love my dog, but he is still a dog.

SNAP! I hate Ellen - Shelters have rules in place for the best interest of the dog. Just because she is a celebrity doesn't mean she deserves special treatment. She didn't follow the rules so NO DOG FOR YOU!

She is a kind person trying to do the right thing.

as for the shelter - they better return the dog before
someone goes crazy and does something to the building.

She didn't follow the rules, the pound rescue clearly stated, if you don't want the dog, bring it back to us, don't give it away. I mean, she could've brought it back to the pound and then her hairdresser could've adopted it. And she cried like a baby and OMG I LAUGHED SO HARD! Over a stupid pound dog.

Animal shelters have the right to take back any animals they feel are being mistreated or keep illegally (as in this case).
