i bought a fox tail at a local ren. faire last weekend.(dont worry, it wasnt killed for its pelt) it was attached to a chain with a simple hole in the hide. before the day was out, i had accidentally ripped it when i tried to sit up too fast and had my hand on it. i dont want this to happen again. is there anything i can do to reinforce the hole so i dont ruin it?

I'd probably be inclined to take it to a Leathersmith; or a tailor first. Taxidermist might be one you can call on also.

Thank you for stating the detail of the purchase.

I'm mixed Native American; and have been to Pow Wows where Gypsy vendors sold BOUNTY pelts, who I eventually badgered enough to leave the property.

Certainly a leather craftsman can stich the hide and add a grommet; OR add Cow Hide patches on both sides of the tear; for added strength; though you should consider that the tail and it's substance is fragile. Sadly whomever SOLD the tail was more interested in Profit than any aesthetics or spirituality involved.

Just one opinion.
