Emotional engagement by the viewer, it has to be interesting and mean something to me.

Good story is a must but that goes without saying. I think the actors need to have a bond and also the ending .. I don't know how many movies have been ruined because the ending was stupid. Why bother spending all that time and money making a movie if your going to make the ending stink.

Great acting and writing are key. That's how I see it, anyway- great acting with crappy writing makes a bad movie.... bad acting with great writing isn't good either... and I love movie scores, so a good soundtrack is essential.
