In our society we eat a lot and every major occasion is about food weddings, parties, church events even for funerals people now have a lunch or dinner for the immediate family. I am going away for my anniversery and I want to enjoy my food and not be so obsessed with it. My question is what are good ways to enjoy vacation without revolving solely around food? What are healthy snacks to eat on vacation as well?

It's nice to go to a restaurant and try out the local specialties of the place you're visiting, but I'm not the kind of person who eats out daily during vacations. I enjoy going to a normal supermarket and trying out their "normal" food, the stuff the locals eat daily. I also like buying fresh fruits at markets, trying out pastries at a local bakery etc. Going to a restaurant a couple of times during the vacation is nice, but the simple stuff is great too.

One thing we do when vacationing is change the way we eat. We snack on local fresh fruit, whatever's in season. For our meals, we try to choose places that specialize in seafood, and we never order anything fried (not fish and not potatoes or appetizers, either). Start with a salad, get a fish dish and a starch like a potato or rice, plus a single roll. Enjoy a glass of wine. Share a dessert if you like--but not every night. Back in your hotel, enjoy apples, pears, or late-season berries.
