Hey it's me again, the bad smell is coming from the back room and it's a laundry/basement type room. The owner told us when we moved in that it leaked through the block walls when it rained really hard but he also put that stop leak paint on the floors and walls. Our sewer pipes run through this area and I know they aren't leaking but is there a way for the smells from the sewer to get back into the house and is there any way to stop this.I really like this house except for this smell ,what do I do except use all the suggestions you guys have given me,and I really liked the one about the dead body and I told my hubby that the former tenant must of disposed of a bad person back there but they did a heck of a job concealing the grave, but thanks guys .

Use the suggestion I told you earlier, but FLUSH this down your toilet. It will go through your sewer lines and "clean" up the smell.

This will also remove the years & years of calcium build up in the pipes.

1. Get a LARGE bin
2. Mix EQUAL amounts of Styrofoam & Gasoline
3. Pour into toilet
4. Flush

You need a professional to tell you exactly what the problem is. Start with a home inspection company, like the ones people use when buying a house. They will probably charge less to look at one specific area of the house than an entire house, and they will know the various possible causes. They will also be able to direct you to qualified contractors to fix the problem. It will cost you money, but it will cost you less in the long run to do it right and do it once, than to keep messing around with it on your own.

The toilet seals may be damaged and need replacing, in Texas, we have what they refer to as "oil well piping in houses over 25 years old. What that is is the cast iron pipes that were once used in the oil fields. They corrode over time and you get whole sections that just wear completely away an the whole line needs to be replaced. Have your landlord pay a plumber to come out and check the toilet seals and run a camera down the lines to check for leaks.
