I recently bought a brand new harddisk together with an external casing. The problem is that my PC can't detect the new harddisk, even though my PC is able to detect the USB casing. So what is the problem? I'm using SataII harddisk.

I tried checking the Administrative tool --> Device Manager and the new harddisk is not listed there.

Any advice?

Right click "my computer"
Select MANAGE
Choose "Local disk management"
Locate the "unused hard drive" in the lower list on right hand side. (Will show without a drive letter)
Right click it, select "partition" make a partition of whole size
NOW Right click and format it.
Restart windows to ba sure settings get saved and hey presto drive should now be visible

Clue was you said a "brand new drive" and they are shipped UNPARTITIONED and UNFORMATTED, so you NEED to do this,

Right click on My Computer, then choose Manage. Look thoroughly there, and see if it is detected. If it is, right click on it and format it. If it isn't, most likely you got a defective hard drive, or one that must be formatted before being put into an external unit. (Meaning you have to hook it up directly, format it, then put it into the case.)

it rather is stressful to tell if this could be a boot sector difficulty or a stressful tension going corrupt. appropriate component to do is to run examine disk below residing house windows. circulate to My computing device, left click on your stressful tension, click properties, kit tab and then click blunders checking. this could do an entire test of your stressful tension for any undesirable or corrupt sectors on your stressful disk. in spite of everything you're able to constantly backup significant archives with an exterior hard drive, DVDrom or 2nd hard drive in raid mode
