We have our ideal partners, ideal food, ideal weather, ideal flower, and even ideal pets, then why not ideal box? After all they too are the entities in this world in our life serving our purposes or need or delights whatever, ideally existing in your imagination.
A simple box may be, or somewhat more specific and ornate one … how do see it? It is there. Not necessarily about its contents though, but it is entirely up to you.
and if you want to peep into mine ... here it is. But tell me about your first:

A Mood Box
A shape-shifting, mind-bending box of illusions. It would only be visible to me and those who I allow to see it. I'd control this box with my imagination. Whatever shape or size I'd envision... it would then become. Some days I'd want it to be big enough to fit an army full of people... and other days I'd want it to be too small for even a morsel of dust to fit inside. There would be times I'd like to climb into the box and use it as a place of mental refuge for awhile. I'd close my eyes and imagine it contained all things that make me smile or laugh. Other times I'd use it as a place to wallow in sadness or all things somber. Each time would be a different and unique experience, as it would constantly change with my moods. Even the texture, the smell, or the sounds contained inside of the box would vary.
This is a neat question and I love the link you sent to the ivory box. What a beautiful poem. :)

My ideal box is the one holding my linen. It is about 4ft wide and 2ft/6"deep, same in height. It is ornately carved with dragons, with flames coming from their mouths, ships in full sail, countryside scenes. Each side,(5 in all) has a story to tell, but the mystery is where did it come from and what was the nationality of the carver?

My ideal box is a cardboard box with a bit of colour on it. Like those boxes fruits come in. Preferably with oranges inside.
It sound pretty weird, but boxes are fascinating stuff. We never really bother looking at them, so when we unexpectedly see one by itself with things in it... Well, when I do... There's just something special about them.

It's totally waterproof, probably plastic. It has this intricate snap system to open and close it. And has a belt attached to wear it around my waist, and compartments inside. It's the size of a bread basket.
"to yet another box ... or a door."
It's empty, because I'm always looking for the perfect thing to put inside.

I'm in my ideal box now. I can see out of slightly tinted glass. People can't see in as much as I can see out. I have little leg and arm holes, so I can get about. And I can switch the lights off if I wish.

Humm...
Well now, no. *Me* thinks I am not a box, no, no, no. Not a box at all. A box it too square, rigid, fixed..... Nope, that isn't really me. A box it too conformist.
No Sorry, box, no.
I am more like an old bag.... An old hessian sack or something like that!! You know the ones I mean? The old hessian sacks they use to fill up with horse manure!! That is far more *me*!!
LOL

Another box lover. wow.
I don't think I would have an ideal box per se; just ideal boxes for specific functions.
but a cedarwood chest with a brass lock tarnished by time rather gets my imagination firing....

My ideal box would be glass with steel framing .
why?
becuase a glass box would be a way to see beyond everything and a steel frame would be for protection and saftey.
