At home. My parents. Their policy was to tell me exactly as much as my questions required. They didn't elaborate unless I did. They told me the truth each time without embarrassment and it's a pattern I followed with my kids.
I feel that telling the kids as much as they ask is a good policy. Asked "Where did I come from?" was answered: "Mummy's tummy". Later: "How did I get there?" and so on. A progressive learning curve was established all round to the satisfaction of everyone.
