Amaryllis plants need a cold dormant period with just minimum amounts of watering during that time before it will bloom. Once the plant is finished blooming, let the leaves store up some energy for next years bloom by keeping it in bright sunlight. When the weather gets cooler, cut down the leaves to about 3 cm above the bulb and keep it in a cold, dark place for 3 months. Bring it indoors afterwards and expose it to some sunlight as you start watering the plant more regularly. Pretty soon you will see new leaves sprouting and a flower stalk starting to form.

Good luck!

I cut mine down to the bulb every year. (About the end of October, beginning of November.) They flower every year around New Years. I'm not sure if this is best or not, but they didn't flowere for the first 3 years, now they flower every year, but only 1 time per year.

Beautiful flower, well worth the yearlong wait!

You need more nitrogen and phosphorus in your soil.

The amaryllys likes of sunlight, but some shade in the afternoon will make them look much better. They do not like temps below 25f. So move them indoors if they are outside.

The secreat to getting your amaryllis to bloom is a combination of cold temperatures, lack of water, and food.
