I wasted 2.5 yrs going no where and maybe I should just end this cycle. Why waste money you don't have to get a degree you'll never get? I'll be dead broke no matter which option I chose.

In 2005 in was doing pre-pharmacy, then transferring and changed to pre-nursing this semester. A My counselor at the Nursing School already told me what my chances are to get into nursing school next year and they're bleek.

Sweetie i understand what you're going through but as a fellow student myself, i urge you to stay in school. Its not easy or cheap being in school and believe me i can relate to that. I work 45 hours a week and go to school five days a week including weekends (full time).. Do i want to go to school every weekend and have no social life? No, but i do it anyways because i know that in two years when i graduate with my B.S. in nursing i will be earning more than i do now as an administrative. I also know that it will be an occupation that will always be needed no matter where i go. Plus there's a satisfaction knowing i can help anyone in distress..
Please stay in school and do your best.. Nothing worth while comes for free and when it comes to school the saying truly goes; "no pain no gain"..
You have to study and give it your best shot to be somebody.
Good luck!

As important as an education is, I have often said that it is unethical for us at the university to continue taking tuition money from someone who is not making progress toward a degree. Please talk to a counselor at your school. There are other options for those who are not cut out for a university.

Having said that, I would not really advise just dropping out as your solution. You need to have an alternate plan, or being out of school will be at least as painful as being in it. What do you want to do instead? If you have no idea, then before dropping out, I would go to the career center and take an aptitude and interest test to get some ideas (you won't be eligible for this after you drop out). If you think you would rather become a cosmetologist or an auto mechanic or an administrative assistant or a chef, then make plans to go to school for one of these, rather than an academic program, and get the best training possible. You can do far better at any of these things if you get the best training out there (my oldest friend, who admittedly had a master's degree already, went to a really good secretarial school and was making more money as an administrative assistant than I was as a college professor at one point).

I quit after three semesters and I regret it. The kick of it all was that it was all paid for (no student loans or grants). I was impatient and went the school of hard knocks route and although everything (thank god) is fine, I am reluctant to go back because of the cost and my time commitment to my wife/kids. Even with the significant business experience I have accumulated, I am still not considered an equal due to my lack of a "formal education". I have lost opportunities as a result. People say it doesn't matter if you have a degree only when they see someone who has succeeded in spite of one. Those examples only come about with people who have made it on their own in their own business working for themselves. I can absolutely tell you it does matter in the corporate world. A degree proves that you had the conviction of mind to make a decision and dedicated yourself to working hard to complete your goal of getting a degree. If you had asked about the value of getting an MBA, that is a different story altogether. You've gone this far. If you want to look at something as a waste, consider that you'll look back and say to yourself that you only had 1 1/2 years to go - not only a waste but a shame...

Good Luck

This would be a bad idea and the wrong way to look at things. Just because it is tough dont quit now. Pick a major you like and stick with it. School takes a lot of hard work and if it were easy everyone would have a degree.

Theres a light at the end of the tunnel.

I wish I could go back. I know it's hard and I know it costs a lot of money, but I urge you to rethink quitting. You'll get that degree if you keep trying. I don't have the money or time to go back and how I wish I could. You'll be thankful you did when it's all over. Talk to your friends and family about it and find some support, it'll be ok. Going back later is near impossible, so do it while you can before you have other obligations to keep you away.

did u read puma's answer? Good. Now let me tell you this, If you do not go to school, that is how you may end up: not being able to spell correctly, end up being ignorant aqnd let's face it, without an education, u will go nowhere. She is right on the money on one thing: some people would kill for the oppertinuty to go to school. IF you do not have an education, you will end up on welfare, on drugs, without any means to support yourself. You seem like an educated woman. Stay in school, choose something you love, no matter what it is, and you can go far. If I could make a living out of crochet, i would. If I could make a living out of being the writer I dream of being, i would! U are in a good place in life, stay in school, finish what you start, and do not quit. Winners never quit, and quitters never win. Are you a quitter?? I didn't think so. You are an intelligent person, use that gift of a brain and apply yourself.

Well, first, please see your adviser or the career counselor at your college. Explain your difficulties and maybe they could help. But if after you have done that, and you still struggle, yeah, maybe you should quit. College really isn't for everyone. Or maybe it's just not for you at this time. However, I'm pretty sure you don't want to work at mcdonald's. Consider what you will do if you do drop out. Maybe you could work at a trade. Or go into sales. Make a plan, don't just drop out.
