Trade Unionism went out with Thatcher in the 1980s, or at least it should have done.

It's Liverpool. I wouldn't expect no less from a bunch of hardcore trade unionists and militant socialists from this part of the world. Scousers are always striking for one reason or another. It's almost as if they invented the concept.

I'm not quite sure what they're hoping to gain from all this. Royal Maill is already losing money hand over fist, and the strikes aren't going to help matters. I see huge job redundancies on the horizon in the postal sector, and no amount of striking is going to stop that!

I work in Liverpool in a job that relies on the post and the past two weeks have been horrendous. Not only have we been twiddling our thumbs but the lack of post is having a financial impact on both us and on our clients.

I won't comment on the reason for the striking as I don't know enough about it. I only know what I've heard on the news, which isn't necessarily the full picture. These unofficial strikes are not helping them to gain support and is only harming their position.

Like another poster said, the strikes are just making the workers out to be 'militant' and striking just because they want to, rather than showing them as standing up for themselves.

Condemn Condemn Condemn,
we do not live in stone age and this is not the way to discuss,
imagine patient's appoitment letters etc.
what they do is just take advantage of people's need to put more pressure on their bosses and this is not fair and is awful.
I personaly never send any important thing by Royal Mail due to bad experience.
this is not just birthday card friends, and it could be something serious which could affect people's life.
and I wonder how Liverpool could be capital of culture with these sort of people handling their postal service.

I can well understand why they might feel the need to go down the wild cat route. However, I feel that they are undermining the official action being taken by the union & their collegues by doing this.
If they feel the union isn't doing enough they should ask them to re-ballot for more action. I'm sure there are a lot of others who feel the same way & could get on to their own branches about this too.
Unfortunatley I also feel that, these days, striking does nothing other than put money in your employers pockets. There isn't enough power behind unions now to do much more than negotiate wage rises for their membership.
Another thing to thank Mrs Thatcher for!

The postal service is losing trade more and more everyday due to behaviour such as this. We can all use the Internet for our mail and privatised companies to deliver our parcels. To be honest I don't bother much with the postal service as I would rather they replaced it with something more efficient. All the strikes just get on my nerves.

While I do not condone breaking the law,I sympathise with them.
I have been on a good few strikesand each time we went back in we got stitched up. all this carry on working while we talk is rubbish, they were'nt interested in talking while we were working before. They only talk when it's costing.

Personally, I disagree with unions and strikes in this day and age. Just let market forces decide. If you don't like it, get another job. If Royal Mail cannot attract and retain staff, then they need to do something about their pay and working conditions.

This is what happens in other industries without unions and companies continually review their remuneration packages to ensure that they can attract and retain staff.
