1 st. unhook the battery!!!!!!! The rest is true except for 'balls?' The bolts that you must tighten are there but you have only access to three of the four-with tricky 1/4 inch. tools and extensions. DO-NOT remove those bolts-instead torque down what you can reliably and hope for the best. My experience on multitude of G.M. tilt columns,(my 88' Safari most recent) Is that this retorquing will hold another 100k of miles without concerne for a loose ,4th bolt , not being addressed. BTW-this is the time to lube the keyway transfers and replace the tumbler and fractured turn cam parts-if cracked.

THIS IS VERY COMMON AND YOU WILL NEED A LOT OF SPECIAL TOOLS AS WELL AS A LOT OF PATIENCE.

AFTER YOU REMOVE THE STEERING WHEEL, THE RETAINER CLIP AND COVER, THE WIRING HARNESSES, THE RACK KIT AND THE THE REST OF THE INTERNAL PARTS, YOU WILL FIND 4 SMALL BOLTS AT THE BOTTOM AND ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS PUT SOME LOCK TIGHT ON THEM AND RE-TIGHTEN AND ALSO REASSEMBLY THE COMPLETE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY BACK.

Are you saying the whole column is loose or just the steering wheel? If it's the steering wheel then the u-joint in the steering wheel that allows you to ajust the wheel has to be replace.
