Why are you posting this in the theatre and acting section and why do you think anyone here should take you seriously if you don't explain yourself further? Do you truly expect people to put out statements and say that they regularly do things to be mean to disabled people? Or do you think most people will state that they regularly hold the door for those with canes and wheelchairs? What exactly do you hope to gain from posting this qiuestion in this forum?

What difference does it make how serious you are? You have no right to demand that people read your mind or answer only in a certain predetermined way that satisfies you. Or even take you seriously.
You've received a lot of answers, and apparently none of them are good enough for you. Nobody owes you anything, pal. It doesn't matter how "serious you really are", or why.

I grew up in a town whose primary employer was a massive repository for the mentally challenged, damaged and impaired. One does not make light of the people that put your roof over your head and dinner on the table.

No, but I may not cast them in a show if we can't work around the disability.

not openly. i do wonder sometimes, why people feel the need to constantly bring up their disability when it is uncalled for....people know what i'm talking about. i'm also not fond of the elderly...not because they're old but because a lot of them cause a lot of problems on purpose.

I hope I'm not. I don't think I am, though I do, I admit, feel a little uncomfortable around them--NOT because of their disabilty, but because I'm nervous about how to act around them.
I get so preoccupied about trying to appear casual and to treat them as normally as possible, that I get nervous and flustered. o_0
