Agreed. We do seem to live in a cotton wool world at the moment. Where kids don't learn that it's not a cool idea to jump out of trees from great heights. Lest they break a leg. Lesson learned here i think...
But on the same subject, i woldn't want a paedo taking me to summer camp..!!

Whilst I agree with your sentiment to some degree I think you have given a poor example. If I had children I would not allow them to go on a trip with a bunch of Manchester Taxi drivers without the drivers being checked out by the Police.and I would also want to be certain that any other unrelated adults have been vetted. I see no reason why the child should not be accompanied by an adult - takes the responsiblity away from you.

The political correctness in relation to child protection came as a result of all the cases reported and more importantly unreported of the abuse of vulnerable kids when being cared for by adults. Many many of these adults abused their positions of trust and physically and emotionally abused these kids.Just because it never happened to you is not a justification for you to say other kids do not have the right to be safe.It is well documented that disadvantaged kids are more likely to be victims of abuse. The laws are misunderstood by many who just like to slate them.I would never never put my trust in an adult who has not been checked out by a CRB check and who has a responsibility to my children in my absence.CRB checks have identified people who have criminal records for abusive crimes against minors and so serve a vital purpose. Not enough people look at things from both sides of the coin.I wonder how many kids would wish someone had interfered to ensure thier safetywhen they were being abused and i wonder how many of then can get "on with it" after such an experience. There are hundreds if not thousands of reported child abuse cases every year.Child abusers are everywhere and many seek employment with kids to gain access to kids so thet can continue thier evil.I welcome these laws because kids have rights too.

Agreed. As someone else said though, we need to be aware of who is looking after children - it was much easier for paedophiles before police checking, etc.
My father told me about an eastern european woman who gave a hiding to a 12 yr old who spat at her and verbally abused her in the street. The kid complained to the police, and the woman told the police he was disrespectful, end of story. I have been spat at in the street by a kid.I told him off, and he walked away without acknowledging me.There was a man walking past at the time, who ignored it all.In my eyes he wasn't a man.A real man would have gone after the kid and given him what for, for disrespecting and ignoring a woman.
With all these eastern europeans coming into britain now, maybe the country has at last got a chance.
As far as I'm concerned, these europeans are exactly what the UK needs, to get it out of this idiotic complacency.

Well said. The U.K. is becoming the laughing stock of the world with its massive p.c. overkill.
I live in Manchester and I remember the Manchester taxi story and it made me and a lot of others ashamed of our country. Some day the average English Joe will say enough is enough. It cant come soon enough.

I sympathise about the kids' day out thing up to a point... but the moment some weirdo touches up a kid on that kind of trip, the whole country will be screaming "something must be done!" Many of those kind of rules exist to take away all risk & although they can be stifling, you can see why they exist.

I quite agree - things have gone too far.
Pubs not allowed hanging baskets outside, paddling pools left dry, the concept of turning us all into vegetarians in an effort to slow global warming.
One day soon we will have to do risk assessments to get out of bed in the mornings.
It's nice to know that WE are paying these idiots, isn't it?

Exactly - although I do think we need to keep checks on who looks after our kids on school outings etc etc and whilst at school - you never know.
But, I agree and so do most - the PC Brigade are a bunch of self appreciative pillocks
