My pet turtles are growing and while I am saving up for a custom built tank they need more swimming space. They are currently in a 20 gallon tank, half filled (need space for basking site and lamp), and I'd like to find a container at least twice that for now, but I have very little money to spare. I have a small living room and this is the only room with space available.

I'm trying to think creatively for a soloution.

I can't make any promises but, have you tried freecycle.org? If you haven't look up your area and see if anyone is getting rid of an aquarium? Everything is FREE on the site and all you have to do is pick it up. You'd be surprised at what you can find for FREE... Just read the community guidelines before posting and it does help if you part with some of your unused things as well.. Good luck

I have seen 55 gallon tanks at St. Vincents for $10-15. Try them if you have one. You can also try a Salvation Army. If you ask, nicely, they may save you one if one appears. Use your phone and call the ones in your phonebook. Remember, if there is a seam leak, it can easily be repaired with silicone glue.

Sounds like you want something on a small budget.
What about looking in toy stores. A combination of large toy storage boxes (that are strong) and if they do not hold water, line them with a paddle pool for toddlers. (the paddle pool could also be shaped underneath with a climbing area)

Good luck ... and make sure nothing sharp goes into the pool with them

Get a bunch of ten-gallon hats.
