I bought a hp laptop dv 9410 us and it came with 1 gig ram(512 x 2[5300 speed]) what i want to do is to add more memory by taking out a 512mn module and inserting a 1 gig so that i will have 1.5 gigs.I usually use my laptop for everyday use not not any digital photo editing or games, when i look at the memory avialability wiget it always says that i am using like 60 to 90% of my memory it never really goes past 90 % does that mean that i don't need more memory or just that the computer memory manager does not allow it to go past and just writes some data to the paging file instead .Can two memory modules of the same speed but different amounts be used?

It should work just fine, the RAM modules are designed to be singly inserted and only need to be of the same capacity if you want to use dual channel mode (which doesn't really give you much extra real world performance anyway). RAM compatibility issues with laptops are rapidly becoming a thing of the past (laptops used to be really finicky about what went in them).

The computer typically will leave a little bit of RAM free (and will also use what left as disk cache) so the amount of free RAM your OS says you have doesn't usually mean much. I'd say that if lack of RAM is causing you problems (like constant disk thrashing) then upgrading would be a good idea. If a 1 GiB module is cheap you may as well just buy it (buy a reputable brand, make sure you get DDR2 RAM and that it has the correct number of pins and you shouldn't have any trouble).

it may run, yet very poorly. additionally, possibility is, in case you in basic terms have 512 MiB of ram, the different factors on your laptop are noticeably previous besides. you would be perfect upgrading each and everything, or only identifying to purchase a sparkling laptop. Sorry : (

Yes, you can safely add 512MB DDR2 RAM but make sure they are from the same company for maximum compatibility.
