If your asking about the main shut off in your house?? You will find it most times in the laundry room, Look under your laundry tub , some where around there, Also follow the cold line from your hot water tank should be there in most homes in north America &Canada. Happy huntig

If the room where your water heater is located isn't finished. Follow the input line back to the meter. The shut off valve is usually located near the meter.
There is also a main shut off located outside. But its usually about 3 feet below ground. There will be a cap on a tube that goes down to the valve. Some hardware stores carry the tool for turning this valve off. This is the valve the water company uses to shut off your water if you don't pay your bill.

At the water meter. The water supplier installs a shut-off valve there so they can replace the meter if necessary.

Given you said house, it is probably at the front of your property on the fence line. it is usually in a cemented hole near your water meter. CAREFUL reaching in - there might be spiders living in there - take the mortein with you.
