My MSN messenger name is the same as my email address with Hotmail. I want to close Hotmail and switch over to MS Outlook. Will this affect my MSN Messenger name?

Also wanted to ask if I can export my contacts from Hotmail to MS Outlook? Sorry if this sounds so confusing?!!

you can use MSN with a different than Hotmail e-mail, but you will have to change your settings I guess, once you closed your hotmail.

as for exporting your addressbook from hotmail, there is a way, you can go to your contacts, then on the top right Options/ Export contacts
You can export your contacts to a CSV file format. This allows you to save them to your computer or transfer them to other e-mail services.

when you save them you can do either as an csv file or open with spreadsheet. up to you,
when you open your new e-mail account, then import the contacts from the saved file.

Outlook is not an e-mail provider it is a program that you can use to e-mail via your e-mail address provided through your Internet Service Provider.

"I want to close Hotmail and switch over to MS Outlook" - M$-Outlook, a Personal Information Manager, can easily be set up to access your Hotmail account. In Outlook, click on the Help Tab to learn how. You don't have to CLOSE your Hotmail (web based Email) account to do this, and I don't think it's even possible to cancel a Hotmail account.

"Will this affect my MSN Messenger name?" - Does this mean you want to change your MSN name? If so, sign up for another Hotmail account. You can have as many as you want.

Your Hotmail addresses should automatically be incorporated into Outlook during setup. If not, in Hotmail, click on the Help link to learn how to EXPORT your Addresses to other programs.

Outlook is a program for accessing email NOT an email address....

therefore you will require your hotmail account anyway.

and yes you will lose your msn login if you delete your hotmail account....

I think you do, as the two are linked.
(you need a hotmail account to sign into msn)
Although I'm not 100%

i might be confused here, i assume MS outlook is the email program?

if it is what you refering to the program can be pointed to your hotmail.

the program is normally pointed to an email account with your ISP, but it doesnt have to. But it has to point to an email acc somewhere.

you can point it to hotmail as well as another acc at the same time. (2 inboxes)
