One must say ... Brits certainly have been a most arrogant lot throughout history.
Holding India as a colony with tens upon tens of millions of Indians subjugated by 300,000 Brits, a bit arrogant one has to say, old chap!
It took a man in a "Bed Sheet" to separate England from her Bombay Sapphire Gin and Tonics and the Crown Jewel of Her Empire.
Nevertheless, England did leave viable infrastructures still functioning today i.e Justice systems and the trains, unlike the barbaric Portuguese that once driven out of their colonies left nothing but desolation.

I love the Brits! Always have! I'm from Virginia and my family were from the coast in fact my Mother was born on a house boat and my Father was born on an island off the coast of Virginia. I said that because they were from as close as you could get to the mother country. The language there on the Virginia coast is almost cockney and is sadly dying out.
We used many english words and phrases while growing up and I still associate with the english.
I trained with the British SAS when I was in the 82nd Airborne back in the sixties. We got along like brothers! Boy, can they drink beer!

It all depends on your definition of civilized.
If it means your cars have to be made different then the rest of the world because you drive on the wrong side of the road. You eat beans for breakfast dinner and supper. You drink obsessively and think your are better then everyone else in the world.That you suffer from drunken delusions. Then you are the most civilized...

I think it really depends on which walk of life you view. I would like to agree. But i'm a police officer in central london and believe me some of the things i see daily are NOT civilised.

Civilised? Yeah we know our manners but we dont care!! Slutty ned girls runnin about the streets bottle in one hand, knickers in the other, shoutin obscenities. Men who just wanna fight and f**k. There are so many thick and ignorant wasters here and so many drug addicts and alchys!! Nah! we aint civilised we are like a nation of animals!

I have yet to meet a Brit in person. But you people have the reputation for being polite. And in my book, being polite is equivalent to being civilised.

No. Since I am not british but Indian. Each civilisation feels that they are the best. And ours is much more ancient than yours.
