Looks to me like the number given to dial FROM ABROAD TO the UK - 00 is UK, THEN 0191 is the code for the Newcastle area - but there are still one too-many zeroes so I suspect an error as that initial 0 in the 0191 wouldn't be necessary! ! !

Can't have 000 only 00. There is no country with the code 191. The codes go from 1 to 98 and then from 212 to 998, and there are gaps in the numerical order. The 191 would suggest the 1 is the USA and Canada the 91 has to be an area code, of which I have no idea.

India's international dialing code is 91.

The 00191 referred to earlier as being Rome, Italy, is a postal code, not dialing code.

Although, if it were India, the 91 would be the center two digits. The first two, 00, is the prefix. Typically, the order is prefix, country, region/city. However, the countries that use 01 are Canada and the US, which use 3-digit area codes.
(I've also followed a UK tangent in researching this - 0191 is the city code for Newcastle-on-Tyne/Gateshead/ Sunderland/Durham.)

I used to LOVE the rotary phones, then we had a pulse dial phone when push dial came in because they used to charge you for that. I was never around a party line. By the time I started using phones they were only in really really rural areas.

Actually, we were on an 8 party line when my daughter was born and I had to ask about 6 ladies to get off so I could call the hospital. We lived 30 miles away and she was born 11 minutes after we got there! peace
