Racism, sexism, and homophobia are all part of one big topic in general: discrimination.

Oppressing or hating someone for who they are.

My question is, would you say that they are identical enough to be compared fairly.

Response?

I'm sorry, I probably should've explained a bit more.

I'm simply wondering because I'm wondering why its taking so long to get over such silly things. This kind of bigotry has gone on for so long, I'm just wondering why it couldn't have been dealt with in past centuries.

No, of course not. People are born of a sex or race while people choose a sexual preference.

You are right in the matter that they are all forms of discrimination and they are forms of hate; however, I don't see how they can be compared to each other.

1) Racism is a prejudice and hatered toward someone based off of ethnicity or race. This has nothing to do with their sex or sexuality.

2) Sexism is simply men vs. women.

3) Homophobia is the fear or anxiety of gay, lesbians, bisexual and transgender people.

The three do get mixed up and the words are slung around together. If there is a black women who is a lesbian working for a straight white male you can have all three types of discriminations occuring at one time. He could be prejudiced towards blacks, he may think men are better than women, and he may also hate homosexuals.

To lump them together would not be a good comparison.

Just my thoughts.

Best wishes.

Well no because I dont think they are the results of different social process especially in the case of rascism but you might say it about Sexism and Homophobia
. I think this is important because one social process or thought process operates somewhat independantly of the other and therefore the meanings behind them are different. Im gay and sometimes i can be rascist I think why are other people from other countries and ethnicities allowed come to our country and take our jobs and leech our social welfare(then I think why shouldnt people be allowed move from country to country as freely as capital and wealth can) now some of them people could be gay but i wouldnt hold that against them and LGBT people from where I live would be considered to have the right to live here.

I think sexism is a real outward expression of masculinity trying to force things into place in society in order to suite mens masculine identities and the rejection of homophobia comes from the insecurity generated by a male being unmasculine or a women being unfeminine and out of place.

Moreover I think males being unmasculine and gay male bisexuality or transgendered (MTF) is a much more extreme "attack" on masculinity than breaking with feminity becuase its males themselves causing a much bigger identity crisis.
Thats why I think lesbians in my opinion get an easier time than gay men and are even liked by them. Some could be really macho and masculine and by sexist and homophobic and I think someone could be just a bit masculine and homophobic but not sexist.

They are all equally as bad though and comparable in that way but I think they are not neccessarily comparable due to the meanings behind them(for sexism and homophobia they are really)

SImilar but not identical, for obvious reasons.

They all come from similar intents, to demean or devalue another part of society, and they often have an irrational value-based or religious justification, so they are similar in that respect.

I think however, that because a person can be one but not the other, they can't be considered identical.

Well this is really just showing that as usual society is very slow and stubborn when it comes to adapting to different things in it and accepting them. We all just need to get along with everything, because we can't change these things and they shouldn't even be thought of as things that need to be changed anyway. I'd say they're identical enough to compare.

Firstly Discrimination is discriminating from others. This maybe a specific breed of dogs to a specific colour candy bar. Discrimination is separating from the group but it is too broad to be able to be used under Racism, sexism and homophobia.

Racism is only referring to a group of people from a specfic country, such as Japan or Mexico or some other country where racism is.

Sexism is only referring to the specific gender of people

Homophobia is only fear of Homosexuals,It only means they are scared, and for that reason they attempt as all animals who are scared by a ""predator"" run away or attempt to scare them away.

Now Sexism, racism and homophobia may mean discrimination on the outside, but a discriminator may not fall under all 3 catagories. so Therefore i see cannot see why it should be all classified under one word

They're identical in the sense of predjuice but they aren't the same thing.
Racism is prejuice against a certain ethnicity or nationality.
Homophobia is against homosexuals.
Sexism is believing one gender is weaker than the other.
There are people out there are all three I suppose but they're not all the same thing.

allow me to agree with yeh 100% other people will disagree because they are in one of those groups or know someone who is, or are sensitive to a certain category mentioned. its all hate of a different thing, of who people are, but perhaps yeh could add ageism in there too. they are similar enough to be compared fairy indeed. although they go in different directions they are one in the same. lol wow some people are blind to such thought. perhaps they should read a little bit more, become a tad more sentimental beings.

Yes. The three are totally separate in their nature and application.

Homophobia is a neurotic, false and fixed prejudice and fear of same-sex attraction and gay people.

Sexism is the arrogant assumption that person's value lies in their genitalia.

Racism is a deep seated and falsely fixed perception that skin colour makes one either inferior or superior.

they're only identical if you hate a Transexual Black Homosexual Male ...otherwise ....
