I agree, a bit of both.
That James Blunt song that made him famous - You're Beautiful - has become the most annoying song in the past five years, but then he's done some others that I really like very much, like 1973 and in particular Wisemen. Either of those I could happily hear a bit more!

Radio and music tv are powerful media. They get paid for airing them. If you have an efficient agent, your song will get heard no matter how awful it is. There are so many over rated songs and artists these days e.g. Rihanna.

I do agree that the more you hear it, the more the song grows on you. Marketing at least one song will get listeners to buy the whole album, thus increase album sales. Music videos are also important in promoting a song creating visual appeal. Madonna for one rely on video promotion.

It can go either way really. But usually you hear it so much because it is a good song. Then after hearing it so much it can get annoying. Although I am a person , that if I really love a song I can hear it over and over and it doesn't matter, coz I still like it.

It becomes successful by how many copies sell ...but u obviously knew that!!!!!!! ha
I think its because, the lyrics can say so much no matter how weird they can be.
The quality of sound re; instrument techniques.
And how much of the population like that sort of music...
I find sometimes you can love a song and want to go and buy it BUT the radio stations play them so much you can get bored of them....so i don't listen to the radio, if I like the song il rush off to my nearest music store n buy it...
SOS FOR BABBLING!!!! LOL

I think because you hear it a lot is the main factor - which is why so many cover versions are successful. We are fundamentally lazy and don't like having to work at things, so if a song is too different (or a fashion or a hairstyle) we think it is odd and don't work at 'getting' it. Cover versions (or recycled fashions) are easy and therefore appealing.
