Im thinking of buying an N Reg Rover 214i and wondered if anyone knew anything about them? I know they're not the nicest looking car but I just need a runaround that isn't gonna cost me a fortune

It depends what sort of condition it's in and how much money you've got and are prepared to pay for it. Rovers are prone to head gasket problems but it's not all doom and gloom! I've got a Rover 200 S'reg and it's a lovely car, it's very reliable

nothing wrong with the 214i bodywise!

ive had 2 of them, only thing to really check on it is the engine mounts at the side of the engine!!! they snapped on my second rover and ended up costing me £350 on repairs. that was a K reg so you might be fine with the N.just remember that Rover are no longer manufacturing cars and finding spare parts may become tricky in the near future! enjoy the car,i did when i had mine.

I would avoid it.

The Rover 1.4 engine is one of the most expensive to fix in it's class and prone to overheating / head gasket failure (head gasket changes require all new 'stretch' head bolts to be fitted, unique to this vehicle) any repair HAS to be done in a garage and they know that and charge a fortune for it.

Think about it, If rovers were any good wouldn't they still be making them?

its very difficult to get rover parts these days so be careful ...something like a ford would be better...get parts easier and ideally you would be better off with a diesel engine.....thats strange... I am selling my ford mondeo 1.8 turbo diesel..... good luck
