Most desktops do not have bluetooth installed. You will need bluetooth on both devices, if your desktop does not have one you can get a "bluetooth usb dongle". Once obtained visit the site below for information on connection.

Although written for a "palm" computer it will work for any bluetooth device.

I will tell you bluetooth is a poor if not useless networking system it just wasn't built for that! Using WIFI will give you a much faster and better connection and is easier to setup as bluetooth was not originally meant for internet services (its slow!)

You will have to use software that will allow your desktop to "Internet Connection Share" with the blue tooth dongle on the desktop, XP will not use a shared bluetooth adapter without additional software as sharing of bluetooth is not built in as it is with sharing WIFI.

It can be done unless one of following conditions is met:
1. Your PC has Bluetooth too;
2.Your PC has two network adapters;
3. You have a router.

for 1&2, you will be required to share your broadband connection and then connect your laptop with your PC by bluetooth(1) or a cable(2). Right click your broadband connect and find "advance" in the property, you will see a choice"Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection", select it and apply.

for 3, just set up the router to dial up automaticly and your two computers can connect to the internet through it.
