Originally Johnny Carson was The Tonight Show's Host. His style was savvy for the times, and he was well loved, and very popular. Joan Rivers carried it for a 5 year guest spot, & for the past 15 years or so it has been Jay Leno, as of May 25, 1992. (That is the same year Johnny Carson retired permantly from the show. His old studio is coming up for auction/sale!)
A few interesting facts about Jay Leno :he is married to his wife Mavis, since 1980. That is amazing, a 27 year marriage these days, not to mention Hollywood! He loves old cars, and has a collection of them. His general appeal is that he looks, and acts like a regualar guy, and not a Hollywood pretty boy.
NBC is set to air it in 2 years with Late Nighter Conan O'Brian-but Fox spokesperson was on Entertainment Tonight saying they were very interested in Jay Leno's enormous talent, or words to that effect. Also that many other Networks feel the same way. The show also stated that Leno is not taking the news lying down.

Who is Roy Emerald, never heard of him. I watch the Jay Leno show on a regular basis, for the first time last week he had some jokes that were not funny. I wonder if his writers are ready to go on strike, and they are letting Jay down. Jay Leno is very funny 99% of the time. I am a fan.

It was Jay Leno that took over when Johnny Carson left the show a long time ago. I quit watching when Jay Leno started.
