It starts this week with Hank and Hal Steinbrenner ending the vacuum left when there brother-in-law Steve Swindal - who was set to control the club - was kicked out of the family and businesses in what will be a messy divorce with their sister.
Once the sons consolidate power, they will begin to move forward with a solid corporate blueprint with no games being played by the old guard associated with their father/Swindal interfering, which I feel has been the case.
George Steinbrenner has been ill some some time and the Swindal controversy has left a big question mark with the franchise and Thoroughbred holdings. That ends as soon as the next couple of days.

First thing the Yankees need to resign Torre then they can be assured that they can retain Jorge Posada and Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte.
Second they should not pursue A-Rod when he opts out of his contract. They can take the money that he will demand and develop a strong farm system, sign a QUALITY FREE AGENTS, EXERCISE THE OPTION AND KEEP Bobby Abreu IMPROVE PITCHING!!!
Third get rid of the following players somehow Ron Villone Mike Mussina Kyle Farnsworth Alex Rodriguez Jason Giambi Carl Pavano.
Fourth work with the players on small ball IE bunting First player that comes to mind Melky Cabrera. This guy can be a great small ball player but he lacks confidence...They should work on small ball playing up and down the line up. Get back to the fundamentals of baseball sacrifice hitting make contact don't swing for the fences all the time!! Stop leaving so many
runners in scoring position on base all the time!!! Also don't allow Joba Chamberlain to start let him work as a setup man for a year or two and then move him into the closer role.
LAST THE Steinbrenner FAMILY NEEDS TO FIGURE OUT WHO IS IN CHARGE!!!

I agree with Zther, 12 straight playoff appearances (4 World Championships) is a sinking ship? Atlanta went 1 for 14 and no one is complaining (of course no one showed up in the stands for the playoffs, either). Cardinals have been to the playoffs 6 out of the last 8 years and set a record for attendance (~140% of metro population).
If that's the sign of trouble, bring that trouble to Cincinnati! LOL

I actually think the ship is starting not to list after this past year. With the exception of the stupid purchase of Clemens, they have finally started to rely more on people in their farm system. They should continue this path and keep Torre as well.

Yea, right, 94-68 is considered "sinking". There is nothing wrong with the Yankees that a couple of blue chip starters wouldn't cure. The rest of the team is just fine.

Keep Torre, pour all that money you spend on overpriced, over-the-hill free agants into the farm system, develop some young talent and mix in a free agent or two. That will solve all the Yankees' problems.

instead of signing overpaid, overrated veterans, they should focus on developing its young core: jimmy wang, cano, melky, joba, etc. that was how they won those world series in the 90's.

They first have to realize that money doesn't win championships. The combined payroll of the Rockies, Angels, and Indians total was as much as the yankees payroll??
It's about chemistry and they have to stop getting these geritol players.
