First of all, why does she want to run away?

If it's a problem with her family maybe it's something that can be resolved. If she's afraid or is in trouble with them then maybe you could talk to your own parents - in confidence - and suggest she come and stay with you for a while. If it's very serious you should think about getting her to talk to social services. They will advise her without contacting her parents (if she wants) and get her any help she needs.

If she just wants to run for running's sake then it's a harder question. I want to say go with her, because two people are less likely to get into trouble than one, but that would only put you in danger as well. I'm guessing she has no realistic plan of what she's going to do or how she's going to survive in the long term? If you go with her you're taking a huge risk and causing your family a lot of heartache for no good reason, so please think about them before you do anything rash.

If your friend is open to it, why not take her to visit a homeless shelter. I know it sounds daft but maybe talking to some other young people with similar experiences to hers who have left home under similar circumstances will make her realise what she's letting herself in for. Seeing how young people are forced to live on the street and how desperate that life is might make her reconsider her options.

Good luck. I hope your friend comes to her senses.

Hmmm, well you didn't say how old you are or where you want to run away too.

But you and your friend have to live your own lives. If you can find something to share, a common goal, then great. If you can help your friend acheive her goal, also great. If you have to sacrifice your goals for your friend, not so good.

So unless you have a strong motivation to run away as well, it is not a good idea to join her.

Perhaps it is better to help her with the problems that she wants to run away from so that she can deal with them without running away. If she chooses to run away then provide her with help so that she is not alone.

Finally look at other alternatives, such as her coming to live with you, so she can escape her problems.

If you are young (less than 18) talk to teachers, counsellors or social services for help in this problem. Maybe there is a good solution that doesn't require running away.

Stay...!!! Get another adult (guidance counselor, clergy, family friend/non-relative) involved outside of her parents and seek help... Do what you can to hold her off from running... Delay...!!!

If it's that bad, have her stay with you until you can straighten out the situation... Nothing is ever gained by running from your problems... They'll still be there when you get back...

There are billions of people on this planet that have to deal with "life" every day... Get help...!!! If its a physically abusive situation, call the police and get her out ASAP...

Good luck and hope this helps...

All you can do is give her sound advice especially if you know the situation she is in. Other than that, you have to let her go on her own.
