Crosby oveerated? are you on crack are something. thornton, zetterberg, briere, hossa, in there prime right now got what? about 114, 90, 95, 100 pts, and they average about 28 yrs old. Crosby 19 yr old teenager beat them all with a 120 pts, and top it off crosby wont reach his prime until he's about 27.(overrated? naw just jealousy.)

Overrated: Evgeny Malkin is a bit overrated just because he plays with Crosby. The Yahoo rankings had him ahead of Ovechkin for crying out loud. Jordan Stall is a really overrated for the same reason. For Goalies, I think that Cam Ward is overrated along with Lehtonen and Lunqvist.
Underrated: For all of his accolades, I believe that Ryan Smyth is very underated. Jerome Iginla is underated outside of Canada. Patrick Marleau is also severly underrated as is Saku Koivu from Montreal. He is the heart and sould of that team without that much around him. He is better than his numbers indicate. As for the Goalies, I think that Cristobal Huet, when healthy, can be amazing. Khabibulin and Chris Mason are also underrated.

I actually think Getzlaf is overrated; playing on a line with Andy McDonald and Teemu Selanne should get you more than 58 points. As for McDonald himself...maybe a little overrated, but Selanne is definitely worthy of the respect and attention that he gets. Sergei Fedorov? Definitely overpaid and overrated...his best days ended with his career in Detroit. Don't know about Cammellari, though; this will be the make-or-break season and so far, he's off to a good start.
As for underrated...I agree with Jokinen and Gagne(40-goal scorers on not-so-good teams). But I'll throw in a couple names from the hottest team in the league right now...and I know it'll raise a few eyebrows. But I think Marian Gaborik is underrated because of the injury problems he's had...and with the season had last year(30 goals in 47 games), he's pretty sure to earn his ticket into the 50-goal Club real soon.
At the other end of the rink...I was waving his banner throughout the latter part of the season...but I think that Niklas Backstrom is the most underrated player, period. You'll say that it's a product of the system, but going 23-8-6 with a 1.97 GAA in your first season as an NHL netminder says a lot. And with Manny Fernandez in Boston now, I'm expecting Backstrom to be in the running for the Vezina this year.

Huselius, yes. Jokinen and Gagne don't get the full respect they deserve either. Zubov, however, is widely regarded as a world class defenseman.
MacDonald, underrated. Savard, overrated...big time.
Nylander? Totally underrated. I had no idea how skilled he was until I watched him for a full season. Not just any guy can hang with and read off a player like Jagr. Just look at the problems the Rangers are having with finding a pivot for Jagr now.
For me, Mike Cammalleri is one of the more overrated players in the league. With the amount of ice he gets and the number of scoring chances he has, his numbers should be much bigger. He reminds of Bob Brooke that way.

I agree with you on Zubov though he's pretty well respected, and somewhat on Savard. Didn't Gagne have Forsberg passing him the puck? Also, Andy McDonald is certainly not over-rated...
Other under-rated players include Marleau, Getzlaf, Hagman, and Cammalleri who plays on a terrible Kings team. There are really a lot of players in this catagory... too many to mention.
On the over-rated (overpaid), I'd say McCabe, Chara, Hatcher, Elias, Handzus, Nagy, Bertuzzi, and Penner... but the WORST now that Alexei Yashin is gone is Sergei Fedorov.
PS: Getzlaf doesn't play with Andy McDonald and Selanne... He played with Perry and Penner/May/Parros. You don't hear about him much but he was the best player on the Ducks in the playoffs and right now.

Funny. I consider Marc Savard to be OVER-rated. Everyone looks at his 90 points and coos, but he's one-dimensional, plays poor defensively, is whiny, and tends to choke in big games. I don't think it is a coincidence that teams counting on him have struggled to make the playoffs.
I agree with you completely about Briere and Nylander. Gomez is so far looking like a good pick here, too.
My under-rated players list: Corey Sarich, Mike Knuble, Kris Draper, Brian Rolston, Cory Stillman, Mike Grier, Mike Fischer, Samuel Pahlsson, Andrew Brunette, and Olaf Kolzig.
You won't see those guys high on the stats list very often, but they do all the little stuff that help a team succeed.

John Madden and Jay Pandolfo are highly under-rated as an offensive-defensive pair. Rafalski got his day going to Detroit, and he's an amazing player.
Don't care for the Rangers, but Callahan is a good player surrounded by wash-ups like Shanahan, Straka, and Jagr--yes, Jagr, who has NEVER regained the dominance he had while in Pittsburgh.
Alfredson with Ottowa, less sung of than Heatly. With Heatly I will always remeber, though not bitterly, that he was behind the wheel when his fellow teammate was killed in that car crash. Great that he's having success, biut I'm sure he thinks about that guy every day.
Lots and lots over-rated and under-rated, but opinions are plenty.
