The Best answer I ever heard was on the Last Episode of Dr. Who in the 1980's The Dr. asked this all controling machine that he met at the end of his journey. The machine said the answer is 4 . The Dr. asked what do you mean the answer to Life is 4. The machine restated the question and said yes the answer is 4. The machine only agreed to give the answer because he had also told the Dr. the universe was about to end in just a few minutes. I think it was just a way to write into the story that had been broadcast for over two decades a fitting ending. If you have never seen Dr. Who from the early TV episodes the machines Answer was most Fitting. every single episode left you wonder what did they mean.
The answer to life I now believe really is 4

Is life but a ripple in the pool of life.? Is our lifespan, and indeed, the life of our planet but a speck of sand in the Sahara compared to the rest of the Universe? The answer is yes.
So what does that do for the meaning of our lives? 80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
TO BE OR NOT TO BE?...... "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

One common rephrasing of "what is the meaning of life" is “What is it that makes life worth living?”. Worth and meaning are essentially the same.
Most of us get our worth through the eyes of others. If other people praise us or even if we can imagine others praising us, then we reason that we have worth. In this system of calculating worth, we always have to earn our worth. We have to "make a difference in the world", "leave the world a better place", or "learn all you can", "live life to the fullest", etc. I've heard these phrases hundreds of times. All those phrases tell us to go out and earn our worth.
Some people will cite love as giving meaning. True love doesn't look at what you do but just who you are. Small children, for example, have worth simply by being loved. We long for this kind of worth.
It is the Christian idea that we have worth just by being sons and daughters of our Creator.

Few people are aware that most of us are gods on vacation.
See, life is pretty damn exciting, what with all the temptations and things that can kill you.
But once you transcend to the realm of fuzzy bunnies and light, well it gets a bit dull. I mean, Saturday morning after a big pancake breakfast with not one damn thing to do dull.
So transcendent beings like to strip themselves of their deification awareness, (except for a few cheaters like Jesus and Buddha), and come down to places like earth to have a rip roaring 'will I save the day and get the girl or go down in flaming death' good time. After death we reintegrate, go back and swap stories.
Life is much like Celestial Halo.
JFTR God Almighty (aka GA) DOES exist; think of Him as the Dungeon Master.
Now the reason some of the other deities are annoyed with Christ is because he told everyone that GA loves them, which is true, but it gets the players thinking that GA is going to eliminate from the game...well everything that makes it fun. Which He's never going to do because He loves us. Yeah, I know it's a little tricky, but war hate death and destruction are here BECAUSE GA loves us.
GA used to allow Demigod players like Zeus & Satan but they've been nixed from Earthplay for being too melodramatic. You know that "I am Beelzebub undying source of ultimate evil" or "I am Zeus Lord of Thunder. I get to rape your women and there's nothing you can do about it." crap.
The gods do bet on Earthplay, but keep in mind there's nothing to lose or gain in Fuzzybunnyland. So what they bet is how they spent their next Earthplay round.
So if you have ever stood naked in front of a mirror tweezing away your female mustache thinking "How is it even possible to have an @ss this big with tit$ this small?" OR wondered why you are short bald stupid gay and hung like a penguin; it's not because GA hates you, you just lost a bet.
Finally, have pity on Liberals. These poor souls aren't happy in Fuzzybunnyland & they aren't happy anywhere that isn't just like it. Do what you can to make their lives interesting.
Anyway, have fun. Everyone says Earthplay 3 is coming out in 2012, but it's not like we have heard THAT one before.

Both of your examples are discussed in "Climb the Highest Mountain," Mark Prophet. Its general conclusion re your question is to learn a sacred labor, vocation, help others, master to a degree love, wisdom and power, and ascend in the manner of Elijah, Jesus, and Mother Mary.
"The Meaning of the Problems of Existence," O. M. Aivanhov, is another good discussion, as is "The Path of Virtue," Jonathan Murro.
"Tortured for Christ," Reverend Richard Wurmbrand, "Expecting Adam," Martha Beck, and "Extraordinary Knowing," Elizabeth Mayer, Ph.D., are also good discussions of the meaning of life, as is "Harry Potter and Philosophy," ed. Baggett and Klein..

Simple curiosity may have brought you here. Or maybe you are truly searching for a deeper meaning to your existence that you haven't yet found. You may just have come to compare your own understanding of the meaning of life with ours. Whatever the reason, bear with us and we guarantee you a fulfilling and profitable experience.
Truemeaningoflife.org is the sum total of lifetimes of personal searching and inquiry. It is the distillation of the primary meaning of life from insights gained in 75 countries speaking with philosophers, physicians, priests, politicians, polemicists and just plain people.
Everyone is different. A one-size fits-all approach to the true meaning of life is absurd. What we have done is to distill the basic truths necessary to find meaning in one's life so that you can begin shaping your own on this universal foundation.

the meaning of life is what you make of it,if you spend your life waiting for tommorow to bring a better day, then today will never measure up to its potential.... if you live in past memories you will never be able to fully appreciate what today can bring you.... while it is important to prepare for the future, live each day as if it is your last day...enjoy life to its fullest and things like the meaning of life will define itself without asking....
