I understand that the formula is:

velocity = frequency x wavelength

But why does 69.9 cm become 0.699? Why do we divide it by 100?

Here's something you should try using . . . units.

v = (512/s)*69.9cm = 35789cm/s

You divide it by 100 because speed is generally measured in Meters per Second, and a centimeter is 1/100th of a meter.
