I collect all sorts of things. Records. Books. Figurines. Gold.
Jewelry, Guitars. Amps. Mics. Abalone. I find I like something
and start small and simple...then become immersed in the things
I've collected. Art. Clothes. Boots. Black Band Shirts. Leather
Jackets.

I could tell you to send me the money you would spend on your collections but I won't. Why don't you investigate and find out what you are colleting that will be worth more money in the future and just stay on one thing. Right now if you check it out gold prices are skyrocketing.

Maybe you shouldn't stop - just have a way to keep it from building up, by selling off the collections on ebay or at yard sales. Like make a rule that you will sell out when it reaches x number of items, and whatever does not sell goes to Goodwill. You may find yourself collecting less because you don't feel it will sell well later on.

I would suugest you take a good look at all your collections, and say to yourself - if the house was on fire and i could save only one collection which one would it be.
Keep that collection and sell the rest and use the money you get to buy yourself a really nice item for your one collection, something you have always wanted but maybe didn't have the money for.
Then after that, if you think you might like to start another collection....JUST SAY NO!

1) death
2) electro-shock aversion therapy
3) years of psychiatric/psychological treatment

You're a collector. You may diminish the collections, but unless something changes your outlook/habits, you will continue to be a collector.

Good luck on finding ways to re-channel the compulsions/energy so the collecting and collections enrich your life rather than stiffling you.

If you're not "organized", try immersion in the newsgroup alt.recovery.clutter , if you are organized, never mind.
