The city I live in is nicknamed the city of a million trees (or something like that). We have several forest preserves and wildlife sanctuaries, and Fermilab, home of the world's largest particle accelerator (for the time being) re-introduced bison and coyotes into the region recently. It may not seem like much of an event to most people in the U.S., but seeing several coyote's this past year has been kind of exciting. Two nights ago I saw an owl for the first time in my life, and I've also seen black squirrels, flying squirrels, shrews, red foxes, etc. and the occasional chupacabra or sasquatch.

Yes, there are some naturally occurring woods in the hills less than a mile from my home: oak trees, bays, madrones.

I live IN the woods. Deer steal apples from my apple trees, and bears think nothing of walking across my lawn. I love country livin'! :)
