In Ontario we use 5w-30 in the winter but because these engines get so hot should i just stay with a 10w-30 so it doesnt cook the oil in the engine and cause sludge?

people like user : 3DD dont post on here if ur gonna tell me what average joe knows about changing oil often and check ur cooling system. U POSTED HERE WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE OF THE 2.7 CHRYSLER ENGINES CLEARLY! >>>>>>>

***THE CAR GET'S HOT BECAUSE CHRYSLER 2.7 ENGINES ARE TERRIBLE ENGINES, THERE R THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE PROBLEMS, I DONT HAVE A SLUDGE PROBLEM .......YET. I CHANGE MY OIL EVERY 3,000MILES, thats why im asking. There are so many people if you look out there who have had there 2.7 Chrysler intrepid motor go on them. They are known as one of the worst engines out there for sludge & timing belt issues.....and the engines run so hot because of the design flaw.......CONVENTIONAL OIL really shouldnt be used in them.......thats why i ask. Not because i have problems with the car getting hot for some other reason.

10w30 stays on parts longer than 5w30 thus it gets hotter. Use the 5w30 to reduce heat on the parts.

You are right. They do run hot. ever wonder why? The next time you have it on the rack, look under the engine. What is the hottest thing on the car? The catalytic converts! And this car has two big ones running right underneath and beside BOTH sides of the block. I guess there wasn't room anywhere else. But it is a bad design flaw. And I'm not sure if being an aluminum block helps matters either because aluminum soaks up heat so much. The 2.7 is a good engine, but running it on top of two burners causes heating problems. And it cooks the oil. And over heated oil and long time between oil changes = sludge! You can substitute 10w30 for 5w 30 unless you live in a place where the temp. gets 20 below. That's where the 5w30 comes in. And yes, change oil in this puppy regularly. No additives.

If your engine is running hot then you have other problems - not the oil. Check the complete cooling system to include the fan and the radiator - the outside and inside of the radiator. Also possible if your hoses are old that one could be collapsing.
